Another Weinstein Reboot: Stephen King's Children of the Corn

Another day, another remake. According to Variety and the still-surviving Weinstein Company, Stephen King's classic short story Children of the Corn is set to be re-imagined and brought to the screen yet again. Previously seen in the 1984 film, directed by Fritz Kiersch, the book tells the story of a boy preacher who persuades the children in a small Nebraska town to kill all of the adults. Tapped to transform King's prose to script is Ehren Kruger, who is unfortunately co-responsible for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen most recently. Yikes, I know. More horror reboots? Couldn't this classic just stay a classic forever?
"We felt the [original] film was a missed opportunity," said Bob Weinstein. "If you read the short story, it's got such a strong feeling to it and there's this religious overtone to it as well. Ehren wants to hit it hard. It's popular in Hollywood to say you [are] re-envisioning a project, but a lot of the time they're just carbon copying the original. We are bringing something new to the story."
I'm not sure if I really want Ehren Kruger to bring anything to this story at all. Let's just run down Kruger's past credits, shall we? As aforementioned, his most recent credit is the atrocity that was Transformers 2, before that Blood and Chocolate (Don't remember that? It's okay, no one else does either!), before that The Brothers Grimm, The Skeleton Key, The Ring 1 & 2, and Scream 3. If psychology has taught us anything, it's that the best predictor of the future is the past. And, to be honest, Kruger's past isn't pointing toward a particularly bright future for what is a very good, very creepy Stephen King classic, and a classic original horror film in its own right. So there you have it. Am I being overly harsh? Or, well, not harsh enough?

You knew it was coming. I mean horror movies are usually super cheap to make and seem to make money no matter how bad they look.
Ofcourse, give it about a week and this will become Children of the Corn 3D!

Wasn't this just remade like a couple of months ago as a Sci-Fi (sorry…SyFy) Channel TV-movie? The DVD is available in October (can't find it on Amazon, but Netflix says it will be available to rent in October).

Bleeeh! Eff Children of the Corn. Someone go ahead and make a write a script for a mini series (because one movie definitely doesn't cut it, nor would 3 like they did with LotR) about The Dark Tower. That is one of the most amazing stories ever.
Of course, if some half retarded helmet kid writes/directs it I would probably hammer my own face to paste over the result. But if someone really talented would take on this challenge…man, would that be epic.
Yes, I am looking at you, Del Toro/Jackson!
Maybe I should just send those two a package with the books and the comics and hope for a miracle.

"Dreamcatcher" is one I'd recommend for a reboot, not "Children of the Corn".

This is gotta sound selfish but I eventually want to be a director when I get out of high school and although most of my ideas are original but this is one remake I've been wanting to do. Although King's is short it a great idea for a film and I feel the original movie did not do it justice. Oh well all do it anyway even if it's like a year between each other. lol

Caitie its not selfish, I see the new age kids as being able to bring better ideas, and more original films to light, and wanting to do a remake of a film a knowing that you could do better than the original is a good state of mind, me I've been attempting to write a script off of Wages of Fear, so its no where near selfish, and the film for the Original isn't that great the short story is just begging for a better version, than the old, you just gotta contend with the die hard lovers of the old one.

blood and chocolate was horrendous. I'll stay away from this remake as I stay away from all horror movies that involve children…creeps me out too much even if they're bad movies.

Come on. Didn't SyFy just remake this film for tv. Now there is going to be yet another reboot. Quit rebooting the classics so many times. Before you know it will be like Hamlet. Everyone has there own version of that tragedy too.
Leave the kids alone already. Find something better to remake.
