Nicolas Cage Drops Out as the Villain from Gondry's Green Hornet
September 9, 2009
by Alex Billington
We knew there was something up with the news from earlier this week that Nicolas Cage had been cast in two more action projects. THR's Heat Vision has separately confirmed today that Cage has dropped out of Michel Gondry's The Green Hornet, in which he was supposed to play a "gangster villain." We first ran this casting news back in July just before Comic-Con, but apparently he's been "in negotiations" ever since, and couldn't work out a deal with the studio in the end. So for the time being, Gondry and Rogen are moving forward without a villain, as shooting on Green Hornet started a few weeks ago (we also wrote about that).
This is actually good news, as it might mean they'll get someone much better to play the villain, though I'd rather have Cameron Diaz drop out than Cage. Unfortunately she's already been seen shooting scenes, so that probably won't be happening. You can gripe and moan about how much you don't like Cage, but nothing compares to how bad Cameron Diaz is, and how she might single-handily ruin this movie. And that's unfortunate, because I still have high hopes for it. Seth Rogen and Jay Chou star as the Green Hornet and Kato. Production has started and Sony has tentatively set a December 17th, 2010 release date next year.

Sounds like too much trouble for a Green Hornet parody. Seriously, if this movie turns out bad, can anyone really blame it on Diaz?

Amen as "Nicholas Kim Coppola" acting sucks with his fake voice, fake hair and fake interest in women.

Rogen sucks the ball sack. Good for Cage, for dropping out of this loser project.

Diaz may ruin this film, but Rogen definitely will. I'm so sick of that guy, he is in everything these days and people are getting fed up of him, his last few films have bombed. He needs to get lost for a while.

Zack and Miri, Funny People and Observe and Report all underperformed, box-office wise.

Exactly #13… and as I said previously, they were his last few films and they tanked big time. #9 is living way in the past, as of this moment, Rogen's career as a leading man is in serious jeopardy and thats a fact, I only like him when hes supporting, like he did in the 40 Year Old Virgin, which was terrific. If Funny People couldn't draw in the big bucks with Sandler, Rogen and Apatow, they should all be worried.

cameron diaz was fairly respectable in gangs of new york, and even if she wasnt all that great in it, she didn't ruin it.
and she is in The Box this year, maybe she's trying to change her ways.
