Oh Yes, There Will Be a 'Rampage' on Carnahan's A-Team
September 9, 2009
by Ethan Anderton
It looks like the fighting arena just might be the new hot spot for fresh talent. First we had news of MMA fighter Gina Carano leading a Steven Soderbergh picture, and now THR reports that UFC fighter Quinton "Rampage" Jackson has stepped up to fill the role of B.A. Baracus (a role made iconic by Mr. T) in the upcoming big screen adaptation of The A-Team. Before today's official news, rappers-turned-actors like The Game and Common were rumored to fill the role, but it looks like Baracus needed a bit more muscle. Jackson joins the already confirmed Bradley Cooper and Liam Neeson in the movie, which is shooting now.
This Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces, Pride and Glory) directed adaptation of the 1980's TV show is about a group of ex-Army Special Forces who work as soldiers while being on the run from the military for a crime they didn't commit. Baracus is described as a highly skilled but ill-tempered mechanic who preferred milk over alcohol, loved to fight but was afraid to fly, and spouted catchphrases. This apparently made the role one of the most difficult to cast (really?), but there are plenty of other key roles left to fill. It remains to be seen if this role can make "Rampage" Jackson as big a household name as it made Mr. T back in the 80's.

Maybe its a good sign that it take this long to cast Baracus. Any news on Murdock? Nothing? Really?

This is horrible news, this means that Rampage will not fight in ufc 107 against Rashad Evans which was going to be an epic fight…

Thats cool….Now can he act and be afraid of flying?
I always thought that they should make him a smaller guy but kinda big or just huge Like Micheal Clarke Duncan. But I like this choice. I think.

Happy with this…. should be awesome! The person in this part does NOT need to be a good actor so I'm not to bothered! Woody Harrelson for the final part on the team and it'll be ace!!

@ #6, Don't get your panties in a bunch! Of course he's still going to fight. Have you even seen a press release from Dana White saying the fight won't happen? Rampage has a contract already signed with the UFC with huge penalties if he pulls out, something i'm sure was negotiated by the studios before he signed on for this role. It's people like you that start these shitty rumors!

@#11, I know he's still gonna fight Evans eventually, but I was really looking forward for the to fight a ufc 107, but looks like I'm gonna have to wait a little longer…..

#5 Touche!
Let me refraise that - Let's see if he can shout sentences no longer that 10 words.
Yo Ethan, I heard he's backing out due a recent fight contract.

i still don't understand- how did they not recast mr. t as baracus? that would be the most baddest ass of bad ass bad asseries to ever bad ass. he looks almost exactly the same, and i think he might have a trademark or copyright on "i pity the fool", as well as the scowl. not mr. t's scowl, just the scowl in general. you're supposed to pay him 75 cents every time you scowl, it's a federal law.

Hey Nick,
Apparently he asked the UFC to delay his upcoming anticipated fight so that he could partake in the filming in Vancouver. I don't think there's official word that this was approved or anything yet, but the casting seems to be solid either way.

Doesn't seem right. You need the humor in there. I would have voted for Terry Tate.

Last week, The Sun reported that Quinton Rampage Jackson agreed to take on the role of B.A. Baracus in the movie remake of The A-Team, but it seems like The Sun pretty much just made that up.
Our homeboys at MTV.com confirmed through Jackson's manager that the rumors were just jibber jabber and Jackson will not be playing Baracus. We're pretty bummed, as Rampage would have probably made a sweet B.A. and the role would have given his otherwise modest acting career a nice bump in cred. He would have been standing beside The Hangover’s Bradley Cooper as “Face” and Liam Neeson as "Hannibal" in the film.
