Sony Picks Up Peter Stebbings' Superhero Comedy Defendor

Defendor

Another buzzed about film from Toronto has sold this evening (via Variety). Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group has picked up Peter Stebbings' comedy Defendor that stars Woody Harrelson and Kat Dennings. Apparently the film was sold on Monday night after its world premiere where companies like The Weinstein Co. and other "foreign bidders" got into a battle over the rights. Sony picked up rights for this for the US and most of Europe, Asia and Latin America. They may still release it through Sony Pictures Classics or Apparition instead, but for now it's great news to hear that this has sold. Read on for my thoughts.

I haven't had the chance to talk about or even review Defendor since I saw it earlier this week, so here goes. It's not my favorite film of the fest (even though I was really hoping it might be), but I definitely enjoyed it. It's certainly very low budget and it feels like an indie, so don't expect any superhero-like epic or anything, but it is pretty awesome and I did like it a lot. Woody Harrelson is really having a stellar year with this and Zombieland. He really does a fantastic job and I do suggest checking this out. If you haven't seen it, you can watch the trailer for Defendor that we posted a few weeks ago. We'll keep you updated on Sony's plans!

It looks like that had somebody who Actually writes, make the art piece you have
posted for this link. I never see production like this for a movie in terms of
real graff…I'd love to see the whole pic of the piece if you have it. Looks like
Dent/Doves did this. Awesome!

^ That art originally came from the trailer… And it's in the movie, too. Some guy just comes up and spray paints a wall like that in the movie.
