Matt Damon Joins Clint Eastwood's Supernatural Hereafter
September 17, 2009
by Brandon Lee Tenney
Clint Eastwood's all set to follow up last year's Gran Torino, and this year's Invictus, with the supernatural thriller Hereafter, and his first foray into the genre world has found its lead, Matt Damon. According to Variety, Warner Bros has not yet even released the logline of this project, set to shoot in the fall. The most they'll say is that Hereafter is "a thriller in the vein of The Sixth Sense." What a twist! At least it's good news that Eastwood is sticking with Damon again. The script, written by Oscar-nominated scribe Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon), moved to WB from DreamWorks, but has retained producer Steven Spielberg among others.
Now, bearing in mind that I've absolutely no idea what this film is about yet, I'm extremely excited for it already. Eastwood is a truly great director. His camera work is reserved, but always impacting, his eye for subtlety superb (though, Gran Torino may not exactly be the best representation of that last point). Having Eastwood in the director's chair for this mysterious, supernatural thriller seems to be a perfect fit. Then again, I've been watching Eastwood kick ass my whole life. Nowadays, he just so happens to be kicking ass behind the camera. Hopefully we'll find out more about the story in this soon, so stay tuned for updates!

Excited!! Hands down. Warner Bros. is giving him another movie; Clint Eastwood does not disapppoint; Matt Damon is a stellar actor; Steven Spielberg picks great projects to produce; Peter Morgan is a screenwriter I'd love to learn from; and Eastwood is taking on a thriller. Hands down, this movie is set to be amazing, I'm already excited, and I cannot wait to hear more and more news. Alex, Brandon, keep us posted! You guys are awesome!

Eastwood is actually a very talented director, but I found Gran Torino a bit overrated, the film was good and all but not what the hype led me to believe. I think Changeling, Flags of Our Fathers, and Letters From Iwo Jima are his best with Million dollar Baby following close, and Gran Torino falls somewhat in fourth for me.
But this is besides the point, isn't it? Well I digress, as for Hereafter casting Matt Damon is a good move. Eastwood will always be a legend in both the acting game and directing game.

Let's make something clear right now. This is no Sixth Sense. Not even close. My guess is they've made some changes since the original draft, but this script is all over the place. My review here: http://scriptshadow.blogspot.com/2009/02/hereafter.html

Nice! Makes me a bit sad that Clint hasn't been directing longer because I think Gran Torino was his worst - and still pretty friggin' good (4.5 stars from me). Also seems like he's one of the few left in Hollywood helping to bring basically original content into the spotlight. STOP AGING CLINT!! Don't let that Spielberg punk push you around too much either. (psh…. I'm telling Eastwood not to let Spielberg push 'em around… ha!)

Awesome news. Clint always makes good movies. My favorites are still Unforgiven and Mystic River. Matt Damon has been on a roll. Action, comedy, and now supernatural thriller! he just keeps killing it!

I heard this project referenced in a USA Today article about Damon and his upcoming movies, but did not know what it was. Now I do!
Let's see…Clint Eastwood + Matt Damon + Peter Morgan = must-see.
