First Teaser Trailer for Ensemble RomCom Valentine's Day
September 18, 2009

Ugh. When this was first announced, I was hoping that it might turn out to be another Love Actually (a brilliant romcom), but set around Valentine's Day instead. Unfortunately, this teaser for Valentine's Day makes it look like nothing more than a dull, overrated romantic comedy that I just know will do gangbusters at the box office. Oh and here's the cast: Bradley Cooper, Taylor Lautner, Jessica Alba, Anne Hathaway, Julia Roberts, Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Biel, Jennifer Garner, Emma Roberts, Topher Grace, Patrick Dempsey, Taylor Swift, Jamie Foxx, Queen Latifah, Shirley MacLaine, Carter Jenkins, and George Lopez.

Intertwining individuals in Los Angeles break-up and make-up based on the pressures of Valentine's Day.
Valentine's Day is directed by Hollywood's go-to romantic comedy "mastermind", Garry Marshall, of everything from The Lottery to Pretty Woman to Exit to Eden to Runaway Bride to The Princess Diaries to the atrocious Georgia Rule previously. The screenplay was co-written by writing partners Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein, of Never Been Kissed and He's Just Not That Into You previously. New Line Cinema is bringing Valentine's Day to theaters on, you guessed it, Valentine's Day next year, February 12th, 2010.

Last ensemble cast I watched with Bradley Cooper in it was horrible (He's Just Not That Into You), but this really looks good and has an amazing cast, so I'll be watching it though I hate the V-Day.

Wow Jamie Foxx has really fallen since Ray. So much potential….so many crappy choices.

interesting concept. could be as bland as the chords of that song though (how the hell is that song so popular?). movies about relationships within a social setting need to take calculated risks or else run the risk lol of merely distracting their audience for 90 minutes. either way it's a gamble. the question then becomes why are we doing this? oh right…'the mortgage'.

I cant stand Jamie Foxx, pass.

"Valentine's day" looks to me like a US version of the UK "Love finally" soufflé: take famous faces, pour them in a multi-threaded romantic p(l)ot revolving around a special moment of the year, stir, put in the oven and hope for the best.
Now with this one - like for any other soufflĂ©- we'll just need to wait and see if it inflates or deflates…

Who cares if it's another typical rom-com!? A lot of people like these types of flicks. Amazing cast! I'm sure it will be mindless fun.
Come on! Garner, Hathway, Biel and Alba!!! That's well worth the price of admission! That's just mind blowing hotness!!!

K… I don't think you're a man. Because only someone with a vagina would have the slightest interest in a fucking romantic comedy about Valentine's Day. Seriously.

The only reason I'm even slightly interested in this movie is because of that cast. It's a pretty huge cast eventhough some aren't good actors, but I'm still curious about how they will get this all to work. As for this trailer though I agree it's not that great.

@9, Syphous. I have a vagina and I don't want to see this in the slightest. Don't you dare make assumptions about all women >:O And "K" really got pissed off at your comment it seems. >.> She must really be a girl.

NIce one #13. Well put. I'm your typical male perv and couldn't have said that better myself.
as far as the trailer, I don't know how to spell the sound of gagging and mercifully barfing followed up with some weeping with the knowledge that once my fiance sees this, I'm getting dragged to another terrible Patrick Dempsey showcase.
Oh well, guess I'll just take her to another Saw movie. Hahahahahaha!!!!

That was a pretty bad trailer. It seemed jumpy and didn't offer up much other than highlighting the cast, which means it's probably one of those movies where there are so many stories going on that none of the stories or the characters ever get the chance to be fully developed.
The only 2 Rom-Com's I've ever seen that did this well were Love Actually and He's Just Not That Into You. Both had large ensemble casts, but did a decent job of having the smaller overall plots tie in the larger plot, while still being able to build their character stories.
I personally find it irritating when people complain about Valentines Day when they're single. Who cares, stop being dramatic! I love cheesy romantic comedies but the last thing I'd want to do is go to a movie about complaining and obsessing over Valentines Day. The only thing this trailer was missing was "produced/written by Hallmark" at the end.

Isn't there another American ensemble rom-com coming out soon? What's that… the third one in two years? Is there really that much of a market for this type of stuff?
