Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson Join The Other Guys
September 22, 2009
by Ethan Anderton
If there's one subgenre of films I can't get enough of, it's the buddy cop flick. The insane antics that can be derived from two police officers with conflicting personalities and ideologies always makes for a fun combination. More recently filmmakers have been exploiting the buddy cop genre for comedy (if you haven't seen Edgar Wright's Hot Fuzz, you're missing out). The newest filmmaker taking aim at the buddy cop world is Adam McKay (Anchorman) and his film The Other Guys (formerly The B-Team). Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg are in and now Variety reports that Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson have joined.
Jackson and Johnson will be playing the hot shot cops that the entire police force looks up to and the city has deemed as heroes, but these "other guys" just can't seem to measure up to. Meanwhile, comedian Steve Coogan has also been cast as a villain facing off against the sure-to-be hilarious Wahlberg & Ferrell. These three cast members also join the recently added Eva Mendes, Michael Keaton and Damon Wayans Jr. The Other Guys looks like it's going to have one hell of a cast, and will definitely be one to catch next year. Production is set to begin tomorrow in NYC, and personally I can't wait to see what McKay has in store.
