Diablo Cody Might Write Ratner's Long Awaited Playboy Movie
September 27, 2009

It's been a few years since a biopic about Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner was announced with Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, Red Dragon) attached to direct. Last year there was even a rumor that Robert Downey Jr. was in very serious negotiations to take on the role of the father of the Playboy bunny. However, other than quick fleeting mentions of speculation it doesn't seem like there's been any real progress made towards going into production. However, Cinematical made a keen observation on Twitter when Hefner updated: "Meeting with Diablo Cody to talk about the Brian Grazer Playboy film today." Oh really, Hef?
But the guys at Cinematical also noticed that the usually vocal Cody didn't seem to call attention to the meeting on her Twitter page. So is she re-writing a current draft? Will she craft a different story? Who knows!? This definitely seems like an interesting and unlikely pairing though with Cody's characters usually having a certain feminist angle to them, and the Playboy Playmates not exactly being the most positive of role models for women. But, hey, maybe they're looking for someone to make the script more respectful of women and dull down the potential (and likely) chauvinism in it. I'm sure we'll find out soon enough.
Although she does have an Oscar, Cody's last feature, Jennifer's Body, didn't fare too well at the box office and only got 42% on Rotten Tomatoes. But with Sweet Valley High and maybe this Playboy movie on her slate coming up, she might be able to redeem herself and write some more hits for Hollywood. Thoughts?

Brett Ratner AND Diablo Cody together. I think that's an accurate sign of the apocalypse.

It's worth remembering that quoting Rotten Tomatoes percentages to gauge a film's quality has its drawbacks. Critics are human too, and have their own prejudices and biases. What they offer is opinion, not fact, and as far as Ms Cody is concerned, their opinions seem to have been tainted by jealousy of a woman who has had too much success too quickly.
Oh, and #2, Diablo Cody famously used to be a stripper before she became a screenwriter, so she probably has some affinity with that world…

I dunno, but since when was what someone MAY do worthy of news?
I MAY go and run 600 miles without a drink of water…
I guess it's because she's an Oscar winner. Okay sure, Juno was genuine, but I found it to be kind of campy and contrived.
We don't need to point out how well Mr. Joe Eszterhas is doing.

I can't wait to see Hugh Hefner spit out quirky dialogue at a snappy pace!

Some poor soul has actually been anticipating a Brett Ratner movie? Pity them.

Ugh. Not only is B. Ratner a so-so (understatement) director, but Diablo Cody isn't all the sh*t people make of her. Honestly, Juno was good, but at the same time very painful to *listen* to. The dialogue just… christ. As if Diablo deliberately and forcefully injected it with the Extra-Indie gene. Eh.
Her name is cool though.

Why is this news? You do know there are Playboy movies that are way better than what we'll see in theaters. lol

#9 Well, yes. I think even Diablo's biggest fans would agree with that. But I still think she doesn't deserve all the personal attacks she's been subjected to online lately.

Please…. one talentless whore who etched out one script that 200,00 people saw and happened to get an oscar.
