Sylvain White Updates His Adaptation of Frank Miller's Ronin
Sylvain White, director of the upcoming film The Losers as well as Stomp the Yard before that, sat down with Collider recently to talk a bit about a project he's been attached to for a while, the adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel Ronin. His views on adaptation are mostly refreshing, especially considering the obsessively faithful adaptations of Miller's work we've seen from the likes of Zack Snyder of late. For those who don't know, Ronin takes place in a dystopic future New York where Ronin, a samurai, is reincarnated. Here's what White had to say regarding his proposed shooting style and how he plans to tackle Ronin.

Christoph Waltz is Villainous Again in The Green Hornet
Good - nay, great - news, everyone! If you remember, at the beginning of the month we revealed a few more choice casting decisions for Michel Gondry's The Green Hornet, including Edward James Olmos and Tom Wilkinson. At that time, the role of the "gangster villain" had yet to be inhabited, but the rumors were that Nicolas Cage was close to signing on. Well, enter Christoph Waltz, fresh off his sure-to-be-nominated performance as Hans Landa in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds who, according to Nikki Finke on Deadline Hollywood, has just been cast to play the villain in this instead of Cage. Now that's a big step up!

James McAvoy and Robin Wright Penn Join The Conspirator
Though he might be more known for his iconic performances, Robert Redford has certainly made a name for himself working behind the camera as well. Back in August it was announced that Redford would return to the director's chair for the historical drama The Conspirator. Now Variety reports that James McAvoy and Robin Wright Penn have officially joined the cast. Wright will play the title character Mary Surratt, alleged conspirator of Abraham Lincoln assassin John Wilkes Booth while McAvoy will play Frederick Aiken, a young war hero who reluctantly defends Surratt comes to believe that she is indeed innocent.

Check This Out: First How to Train Your Dragon Teaser
Love dragons? Then this is for you! DreamWorks Animation's next is How to Train Your Dragon, due out next March. This is another original project from the animation studio that last brought us Monsters vs Aliens. I'll admit I'm actually quite excited to see this, which is very rare for DreamWorks, but I'm getting a sort of Kung Fu Panda vibe. I just hope it lives up to that. Okay so this isn't really a trailer. It's a very short, very low quality, very basic teaser for the movie. I sincerely hope this isn't what they used to first introduce people because it's not very good, especially considering we've already seen some early artwork. Enjoy?

UPDATE: Disney's Prince of Persia NOT Coming in Digital 3D
Disney just keeps the hits coming out of D23. Casting bits and project announcements galore have filled our pages, but now a project that is already in post-production gets some big news. Disney's big upcoming video game adaptation Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will be given a full fledged 3-D release. This was first brought to the attention of the folks at ComingSoon when a poster for Prince of Persia appeared on a display highlighting all the 3-D Disney release coming up. This was confirmed by on-site Disney reps, but it's important to note that since the film was not shot in 3-D, this will be done entirely in post-production.

Toy Story 3 Casting News Straight from Disney's D23 Expo!
Plenty of big news has come straight from Disney's D23 Expo. Friday had huge updates regarding a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, a new Muppet movie, and a new animation label with Guillermo Del Toro. Well today straight from the showroom floor John Lasseter gave some juicy casting updates regarding Toy Story 3, and thanks to the Lee Unkrich (the film's director) and his Twitter page, we weren't out of the loop. New cast members include Pixar veterans Jeff Garlin (WALL-E) and Bonnie Hunt (Cars, A Bug's Life), as well as Whoopi Goldberg making her Pixar debut, but the coolest casting tidbit is a surprise.

Bruce Campbell Says Spider-Man 4 Shooting in January?
Bruce Campbell is certainly a novelty in the Spider-Man franchise. In each film he's played a character who has somehow defeated the unbeatable Spider-Man (something which no other villain can seem to do). The actor's charisma and close relationship with director Sam Raimi pretty much guarantees his involvement in the upcoming sequels, so when Campbell dishes out some info, we should probably be listening. This time Access Hollywood caught up with Campbell and found out from him that not only is his role in Spider-Man 4 considered to be a "major one," but apparently the sequel will begin shooting in January of 2010.

Official Trailer for Disney's A Christmas Carol Finally Arrives
Disney has finally debuted the official trailer for Robert Zemeckis' A Christmas Carol in glorious high definition on Yahoo today, but unfortunately not in glorious 3D (for better or worse). This is the very same trailer that they've been playing for a long time now, but it just hasn't showed up online until today, which is a bit odd considering this has been playing in theaters since the summer. My opinion remains the same - I'm looking forward to seeing it, but I'm not overly excited. I guess I'm just tired of Zemeckis doing the same thing over and over, for a third time now, and even with Jim Carrey, it doesn't make a difference. Check it!

Soderbergh Says His Spalding Gray Documentary is Finished
I just finished an interview with Steven Soderbergh, one of my personal favorite directors, up in Toronto today. It's a fascinating interview that covers The Informant and his directing career, but at the end I asked him for a brief update on all of his projects in the works, since he has quite a few. I asked him for an update on the Spalding Gray documentary he's been working on and the good news is that it's ready to go. "Yea, I just finished it," Soderbergh said. "Yea, we're going to go to Slamdance [with it]." Gray, for those who don't know, is a writer and actor best known for his monologues, like the one seen in Swimming to Cambodia.

Blogging Live from Toronto '09: Part 1 - Off to a Slow Start
If it weren't for two films I saw in the last two days, I would've been unhappy with the start of this year's Toronto Film Festival. The first two I saw on Thursday, the first day of the fest, were two films I was looking forward to seeing, and yet both of them were huge let downs. Not a good start for a festival that lasts 10 days and boasts a line-up of over 250 international features. I'm glad to see that they've kept their slogan "For the Love of Film" this year, though I'm not seeing it up on display as much as last year. Maybe that's why it's off to a slow start? Or (more likely), maybe it's just a coincidence that they switched their signs?

Tron Legacy's Steve Lisberger Talks About Digitized Actors
As part of the D23 Expo presentations, Disney brought in some of the team behind the upcoming Tron Legacy. While we weren't there, ScreenCrave was, and they got to talk to the original 1982 Tron director Steve Lisberger, who helped write the new sequel and is producing it. They asked him about his thoughts on creating CGI characters, like the younger Flynn (as was reported back in February). Instead of actually answering the question, Lisberger started talking about the idea of creating a realistic artificial intelligence program that can literally replicate a human, which is an intriguing thought in connection with Tron.

IFC Debuts One Final Trailer for Lars von Trier's Antichrist
IFC has cut on more trailer for Lars von Trier's Antichrist for your viewing pleasure today. The very first trailer for this controversially insane film arrived back in April before it premiered in Cannes. Having seen this twice, I can tell you it really is as crazy as this trailer makes it seem, and that music and every last bit of footage you see here is in the film. In my first review of Antichrist from Cannes, I gave it a "8ish out of 10" rating, but after seeing it for a second time, I'm not even sure I like it. So if that's not indecisive enough, well, I'm just not sure what else I can say. Just watch the trailer if you're interested, it'll help you decide.
