Action-Heavy Trailer Debut for John Luessenhop's Takers

Takers Trailer

To offset that bad taste in your mouth from that poster this morning, Screen Gems has debuted the official trailer for Takers, the bank robbery action-thriller starring an eclectic cast of wanna-be action stars (who may or may not actually be good actors). I usually like a good heist movie, but this looks like a big dumb action flick, with way too much cheesy dialogue. It almost looks like a combination of The Italian Job and Fast & Furious, and not necessarily in a good way. I'm not entirely sure, I'll let you decide if this is worth watching, just because it's hard to really tell right now. So anyway, check out the trailer for Takers below!

Wonderful New Where the Wild Things Are Character Posters

Where the Wild Things Are

This just keeps getting better. Damnit, why isn't it October yet?! Everything that Warner Brothers has made and distributed for Where the Wild Things Are so far has been wonderful, and it keeps getting better. MySpace has debuted four new character posters for the movie today and they're just as great as any of the other posters we've debuted for this (here's the most recent one). Honestly, at this point, I have nothing more to say about this. Everyone I know is excited to see it, they're all expecting to even cry in it, and I really do think it will up to our expectations. I really think Spike Jonze pulled it off. Let the wild rumpus start!

Cameron's Underwater 3-D Drama 'Sanctum' Coming 2010

James Cameron

To be directed by Alister Grierson from a script by Andrew Wight and John Garvin, and overseen by the wide, deep gaze of James Cameron, Sanctum has been co-purchased by Relativity and Universal, according to Variety today. Andrew Wight, a long-time associate of Cameron's who helped develop the 3-D technology seen in the documentaries like Aliens of the Deep and Ghosts of the Abyss, used his own death-defying experience as a catalyst for Sanctum. While leading a diving expedition miles into a system of underwater caves, a freak storm collapsed the entrance forcing Wight and his team to race to find another way out.

Pixar Updates: Mr. Pricklepants, Cars 2, & Winnie the Pooh

Toy Story 3

The legendary John Lasseter stopped by London earlier today for a special Disney Animation Showcase and made a handful of exciting announcements related to upcoming Disney and Pixar projects. First off, he revealed that ex-James Bond actor Timothy Dalton would be providing his voice in Toy Story 3 for the character of Mr. Pricklepants, a hedgehog toy with thespian tendencies (via Empire). If you've seen Hot Fuzz, you'll know Dalton is usually a brilliant addition to any movie these days, and I can't wait to hear his voice in this. Lasseter made a few other exciting reveals, including plot details for Cars 2, so read on!

Must Watch: Final Trailer for Mike Dougherty's Trick 'r Treat

Trick 'r Treat Trailer

After endless delays and hesitation, Warner Brothers has debuted one final trailer for Mike Dougherty's new cult classic horror film Trick 'r Treat, which will sadly go straight-to-DVD in early October (go pre-order it now!). Here's the crazy thing - we first featured a trailer for Trick 'r Treat two years ago, in July of 2007, which you can still see here (it was on the 300 DVD). This thing has been delayed for so long, but I wouldn't hesitate calling it a near masterpiece, as it's absolutely brilliant (read my 10/10 review). One of my quotes ended up in the trailer below, near the end of it, so be sure to check this out and be sure to go see it, too!

The A-Team's Murdock Role Offered to D9's Sharlto Copley?

Sharlto Copley

Sharlto Copley not quite a household name yet? This producer-turned-actor most recently turned out, in my opinion, one of the best, most harrowing performances of the year as Wikus Van De Merwe in District 9. And it looks like his acting career is taking off, and maybe even teaming up - according to BlackFilm, Copley has been offered the role of Capt. H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock in the reboot and big screen reimagining of The A-Team. There's no word if Copley has accepted the role, but this seems like a great fit. Admittedly, my knowledge of the mercenary team consisting of Hannibal, Face, Murdock, and B.A. Baracus is limited.

Avert Your Eyes: It's the Poster for John Luessenhop's Takers

Takers Posters

I pride myself on my honesty. With that in mind, let me say, this poster for Screen Gems' new film Takers is horrendous. I'm not sure which is worse: Paul Walker's floating head, his 'is-that-baby-breakdancing?!' expression, Hayden Christensen's smug, 'I-ruined-Star Wars' pose, or the fact that Idris Elba is going to be completely wasted in this film. The film revolves around a group of unstoppable bank robbers who just can't- be- caught. But when they attempt to pull off one- last- job-, the crew finds that hardened detective Matt Dillon is hell-bent on solving the robberies once and for all. Check this out (via ComingSoon) below.

Anton Yelchin Joins the Cast of Jodie Foster's The Beaver

Anton Yelchin

This past summer was a big one for Anton Yelchin. First he brought us a few laughs as Russian Star Fleet officer Pavel Chekov in Star Trek, and then joined the resistance as Kyle Reese in Terminator Salvation. Variety reports that he'll be joining the cast of the indie dark comedy The Beaver. You might remember this project when it was at the top of the 2008 Black List, but more recently its made swift moves in casting Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster (who will also be directing the Kyle Killen script). With Yelchin being thrown into the mix as Gibson and Foster's character's son, my level of intrigue for this project just keeps growing.

Warner Brothers No Longer Master of He-Man's Universe

He-Man

With the box office success of movies based on toys like Transformers and G.I. Joe, the re-invention of another iconic toy line, Mattel's Masters of the Universe, seemed like a no-brainer. But adapting the adventures of He-Man and his battles against the evil Skeletor have proven to be quite the challenge, and it looks like these difficulties have finally taken their toll on Warner Bros. Variety reports that WB and Mattel reached a mutual agreement to let the studio's option on this property expire so that Mattel can take the project elsewhere. But what exactly does this mean for director John Stevenson and producer Joel Silver?

Samuel Maoz's Lebanon - A Film Set Entirely Inside a Tank

Lebanon Photo

That photo you see above is the first still from Samuel Maoz's Lebanon, a film set almost entirely inside of a tank. The film just premiered at the Venice Film Festival (reviews below) and also shows at the Toronto Film Festival and is about a lone tank and a paratroopers platoon that are dispatched to search a hostile town during the Lebanon War in 1982 (same war as seen in Beaufort and Waltz With Bashir). As described in the TIFF guide: "Lebanon is a sensual film in the dictionary sense of the word. The majority of the action takes place inside the tank, and a hot, sweaty, rusted-out place it is, rank with the odours of men and fear."

New Release Dates: Paranormal, Orson, Capitalism, The Road

Photo from The Road

A bunch of new release dates have been changed, set, or announced today. While all of the changes will be made to our Release Schedule, I wanted to point them out today, as there are a few films here that I know a lot of people are looking forward to seeing. First up, The Weinstein Company has set John Hillcoat's The Road for release on November 25th. Also opening on that same date is Richard Linklater's Me and Orson Welles, which premiered at TIFF last year and was just picked up by Freestyle Releasing. Michael Moore's new doc Capitalism: A Love Story also got pushed to October 2nd. More updates below.

Official Black Dynamite Trailer - Watch This, Jive Sucker!

Black Dynamite Trailer

Apparition has debuted the official theatrical trailer for Black Dynamite, the blaxploitation throwback starring Michael Jai White. This film is so badass that I can't even use the word badass to describe it because it would be way too tame of a term! I first saw this up at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and it was awesome. It gets a little too wild, too often, and by the end I was almost tired of it (read my review). But in the 2-minutes of this trailer, you definitely won't get tired! If you're digging this at all, it's one of those films that you just have to see it in theaters with a big group of people, you'll have one hell of a time. Dig it!
