Mike Judge Talks the Return of Beavis and Butt-Head?

Beavis and Butt-Head

Writer and director Mike Judge's comedic mind is a rare commodity.  He captured the voice of a generation with the now decade old cult classic Office Space.  But before that Judge was already the talk of the small screen (really an entire generation) as the creator, writer, director, producer and vocal talent for the crudely hilarious 90's animated series "Beavis and Butt-Head."  In its prime the series hit the big screen in the feature length film Beavis and Butt-Head Do America.  Now 13 years later there might still be a chance we'll see the dim-witted duo return to the big screen, or at least that's what Judge said in a recent interview.

Short 'n Sweet Behind-the-Scenes Featurette for Whip It

Whip It Featurette

Who wouldn't want to watch a bunch of normally sweet girls beating each other up in a roller rink, I mean come on, this looks so awesome! Apple has debuted a rather short, but sweet, behind-the-scenes featurette for Drew Barrymore's Whip It starring Ellen Page. The trailer for this hit back in July and the film itself debuts up in Toronto this month, so you'll probably be hearing about it a lot in the next few weeks. I don't even care that this looks cheesy or anything, I'm excited to see it, it looks like a good story packed with a lot of dirty fun, I'm expecting to have a great time. And as for Barrymore directing, she doesn't look half bad!

Another Fun Photo of Spielberg and Jackson Working on Tintin

Spielberg and Jackson Working on Tintin

Oh joy! The Spanish movie website Estrenos deCine has posted yet another fun photo of Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg together on the "set" of The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. This time, though, they're wearing bowler hats while they work! As far as I know, Paramount has not yet fired up the marketing machine for Tintin in the US. There is a lot of media floating around internationally, because Tintin is a much more well known character elsewhere, but here in America it's all still quiet. I think they're waiting for the right moment to introduce us to him, but for now, these are the kind of photos we get to see!

Crazy, Insane Trailer for Indie Flick 'Leslie, My Name Is Evil'

Leslie, My Name Is Evil Trailer

This is one of those trailers where you're guaranteed to be asking yourself "what the hell did I just watch?" Apple has debuted the trailer for an indie film called Leslie, My Name Is Evil today and it's quite a wild ride. Apparently this is "loosely based" on the Manson Family murders about a girl who was traumatized as a teenager and joins a radical cult that murders people. It looks pretty frickin' insane, and I'm not entirely sure that's a good thing, but I'm hoping to catch this up at the Toronto Film Festival in order to write a full review. I guess I'd say it has potential, and at least the performances from the two lead actors look great.

First Official Poster for Werner Herzog's New Bad Lieutenant

Nicolas Cage - Bad Lieutenant

Remember that downright awful trailer for Nic Cage's new "lucky crack pipe" movie? Yep, the one called Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, a remake of the 1992 Bad Lieutenant that starred Harvey Keitel. ComingSoon has debuted the official poster for the film today, which is (believe it or not) showing at the Venice, Telluride, and Toronto Film Festivals this month. I know, it's Werner Herzog, I get it, but still?! I'm going to see it and will have a review this weekend, so stay on the look out for that. It could be good and that trailer was just bad, or it could be bad and that trailer was just a warning. I'll find out soon enough!

Disney Sets Tron Legacy for a December 17th, 2010 Release!

Tron Legacy

Disney has announced a December 17th, 2010 release date for the highly anticipated Tron Legacy, arriving in theaters (and probably IMAX) in 3D on that day. This puts it up against Michel Gondry's The Green Hornet, which Sony just moved to that spot last week, as well as Yogi Bear and Sony's The Smurfs, which are also in 3D. I predicted many months back that Disney would drop this in the Avatar slot, just because it's another big sci-fi 3D event movie, and they're expecting Avatar to do well this year. It's a perfect date for Tron Legacy, even though it's a long ways out. And I'm sure Sony will move Green Hornet.

Facebook Casting Rumors: Jesse Eisenberg & Justin Timberlake?

Jesse Eisenberg / Mark Zuckerberg

If it weren't for today being a slow news day and/or a travel day, I probably wouldn't care to write about this. They're just rumors and they don't mean much and I'm not even that happy with the choices. Our friend Carson Reeves of ScriptShadow wrote an update on his Facebook page mentioning that he's heard rumors about the cast for David Fincher's The Social Network, the movie about Facebook. He says that Jesse Eisenberg will play the lead Mark Zuckerberg (seen above), Justin Timberlake will play Napster's Sean Parker, and Andrew Garfield will play Eduardo. How's that for some interesting casting choices?

Must Watch: Beautiful Trailer for Chow Yun-Fat's Confucius

Confucius Trailer

Well this was unexpected. Quiet Earth has discovered the very first trailer for Confucius, the Chinese government developed biopic starring Chow Yun-Fat as the iconic philosopher. I wasn't expecting this to look as phenomenal as it does. Maybe I'm just being sucked into the visuals and the emotion and the ancient Chinese setting, but I just think it looks amazing so far. It's a full 3-minute trailer without any dialogue, only some beautiful music, but it's definitely worth watching. I don't know who did the score that's in this trailer, or where it's from, but it's exceptional. I can't wait to see this, whenever it makes its way over to America!

28 Days of Movies - From Telluride to Toronto to Austin!

Telluride Film Festival

Today I embark on another 28-day adventure around North America to three great film festivals. I fly today to Telluride, Colorado for the Telluride Film Festival, then head to Toronto on September 8th for the Toronto Film Festival, then head to Austin, Texas on September 20th for the Fantastic Fest held at the world famous Alamo Drafthouse, before finally returning home on October 1st. It's a whirlwind adventure that I've been excited to go again since finishing the same "epic tour" last year. Joining me on the road for all 28 days is Peter Sciretta from SlashFilm. You can expect plenty of great fest coverage all this month.

Check This Out: First Officially Released Photo from Saw VI

Saw VI Trap

My first thought was - wait, the "first" photo? Didn't we already see three posters and a teaser trailer for Saw VI? Yes we have, but there's a reason why Lionsgate chose to release this one. What you see below is obviously another trap, but could it, no, it can't be Jigsaw can it? Its got to be someone else, just disguised by that mask, because Jigsaw is dead! Here's a new synopsis: Special Agent Strahm is dead, and Detective Hoffman has emerged as the unchallenged successor to Jigsaw's legacy. However, when the FBI draws closer to Hoffman, he is forced to set a game into motion, and Jigsaw's grand scheme is finally understood.

Shane Acker Talks Sequel to 9, Plus More PG-13 Animation

Shane Acker's 9

A few weeks back I interviewed the talented Shane Acker, director of the upcoming animated movie 9. That interview will be out in full next Monday (it's a must watch, I guarantee it), but in the meantime I wanted to mention a few things he said that would make for some exciting news today. When you sit down to watch 9 next week (it opens next Wednesday, September 9th), I'm certain you'll get so wrapped up in the world that he's created, you won't want it to end (or you'll want it to continue). We already know that means a sequel, and the good news is that Acker has already been thinking about one... and other original ideas.

Richard O'Barry's Doc 'The Cove' May Have Ended Dolphin Killing

Dolphin Killing from The Cove

I guess movies really can change the world? One of the most talked about documentaries this year was one called The Cove directed by Louie Psihoyos (watch the trailer). The film documented a covert attempt spearheaded by Richard O'Barry (of the Save Japan Dolphins Coalition) and a group of experts to infiltrate and capture on tape the mass killing of dolphins that occurs in a secret cove in Taiji, Japan. It was talked about not only for its filmmaking aspects and riveting story, but also because it was showing the world what happens in that secret cove in Japan. O'Barry just updated a blog with some apparently incredible news.
