Check This Out: New Teaser Poster for The Crazies Remake
Overture has debuted the second teaser poster for Breck Eisner's remake of The Crazies that stars Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell, Danielle Panabaker, Joe Anderson, Joe Reegan, and a whole town full of crazies. The poster doesn't feature any faces and is a follow-up to the first teaser from February. Kind of reminds me of the first teaser poster for The Invasion - I just hope this turns out much better than that movie (which was also coincidentally kind of a remake). It's a damn cool design and I like the look of it, I just want to see a trailer or more photos first, especially since this doesn't live up to craziness the original poster anyway.

Ric Roman Waugh Directing Atlas Entertainment's Rubicon
Relativity is partnering with Atlas Entertainment to develop Rubicon, a revenge thriller project created by stuntman Ric Roman Waugh (seen above) and Michael A. Lerner (of French Exit and Deadlines). Plot details are being kept under wraps at the moment, but the thriller is supposedly female-driven and set in a Mexican border town. Ric Roman Waugh, who has directed films like Exit, In the Shadows, and Felon, will be directing Rubicon. The project is being funneled through Relativity and Atlas' three-year, six-picture financing deal. I'm hoping with a title like Rubicon this will be a complex thriller, but it's hard to tell early.

David D'Andrea's Special Antichrist Poster for Fantastic Fest
I saw this on display at Fantastic Fest a few days ago but didn't think much about it. Apparently this poster for Lars von Trier's Antichrist was created specifically for Fantastic Fest by poster artist David D'Andrea (visit his site: dvdandrea.com). We were just sent an email with a copy of this thing in high res and it's worth checking out. It's a fairly beautiful poster and I think you can actually buy them here in Austin, but I'm not sure if you can order them online or else (check Mondo Tees in a few weeks). As for more review of the very controversial film, check out: Twitch or Fangoria or HorrorMovies.ca. Anyone still interested in seeing this?

Must Watch: Teaser Trailer for A Nightmare on Elm Street!
New Line has debuted the first teaser trailer for A Nightmare on Elm Street tonight on MySpace, which you can see below in all of its high def glory. Although this is a remake from the (in)famous Platinum Dunes (responsible for the recent Friday the 13th and Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes), it actually looks great. It looks dark, thrilling, beautifully stylized, and possibly more intense than the original, although I've got to be careful saying that. I'm not the biggest fan of this franchise, but I will be seeing this in theaters and going through as many of the originals as I can. Without further ado, check out the brand new teaser trailer below!

Fantastic Fest Review: Ernesto Díaz Espinoza's Mandrill
I always love to be surprised at film festivals and luckily today that happened. I caught a great Chilean film titled Mandrill, which just so happens to be filmmaker Ernesto Díaz Espinoza's follow-up to Mirageman. Espinoza pretty much made Mandrill as a film he wanted to be able to come back to Fantastic Fest with again and debut. For whatever reasons, going into this, I had no clue what to expect. What I discovered was a badass (and I'm not using that word lightly) action thriller that mixes James Bond, spaghetti westerns, and 70's exploitation in an incredibly entertaining way. It's hands down one of most fun films I've seen here.

Second Full-Length Trailer for Disney's A Christmas Carol
No more than two weeks after Disney finally put the first teaser trailer for Robert Zemeckis' A Christmas Carol online, they've released a second full-length theatrical trailer for the movie (via Apple). I'm sure this footage will look a lot better in 3D, but it still looks like a wild ride. I'm still looking forward to this, more so to see the darker version of Charles Dickens' story, but now I'm bit concerned. The later half of this trailer either has Scoorge flying through the air or riding on a giant icicle, which makes me believe there's going to be a lot of 3D gimmicks that involve flying and sliding. Anyway, I'm sure it'll still be entertaining. Thoughts?

Fantastic Fest Review: George Romero's Survival of the Dead
I'm not the biggest George Romero fan, but I do know that no one can make zombie movies like he does. Unfortunately in the last few years he's been making some pretty awful zombie movies, including Diary of the Dead which I saw at the Toronto Film Festival a few years ago and really hated. But he's back at the top of his game again with Survival of the Dead. It's not a return to form, but he is back. Somewhat like Steven Soderbergh, Romero has reached a point where he just likes to experiment and do whatever the hell he wants, which includes making a zombie movie that feels more like a western than a post-apocalyptic epic.

Live from Fantastic Fest '09: Part 1 - Sweet Austin Hospitality
I'm currently sitting in the lobby of the Alamo Drafthouse on the morning of the 4th day of Fantastic Fest down in Austin, TX. Although I got a few days of rest earlier this week, I'm back right in the thick of things already and exhaustion has definitely started to kick in. However, if it weren't for the wonderful hospitality of Tim League and everyone at Fantastic Fest, I wouldn't be as happy (and excited) as I currently am. This fest really is incredible, I've had a blast every day, and I love seeing movies here at the Drafthouse. I've seen about 10 movies so far, including Zombieland (as seen above), but there's still plenty more left to come!

Beautiful Must Watch TV Spot for Where the Wild Things Are
Okay, I promised I wouldn't run anything else from Where the Wild Things Are, but this is just too beautiful to pass up. Warner Brothers has created a handful of absolutely fantastic TV spots for Where the Wild Things Are. In fact, they're so downright brilliant, that I have a feeling Wild Things may be a huge hit with both kids and adults because of them. That's a blind bet right now, but if everyone is seeing these, I wouldn't be surprised. And if you're looking for the song used in this (or any of the TV spots), it's one of the original tracks on the official soundtrack (which will be available on iTunes in a few days). Anyway, enjoy!

Roman Polanski Arrested in Switzerland on 30 Year Old Warrant
Filmmaker Roman Polanski has been arrested in Switzerland today on a 1978 US arrest warrant, reports NY Daily News. Polanski was flying to Switzerland to receive an honorary award at the Zurich Film Festival when he was detained late Saturday at the airport, festival organizers said in a statement. Polanski fled the US back in 1978, a year after pleading guilty to the accusations that he had sex with a 13-year-old girl. He has since never returned to the US, but has continued to direct in France. Swiss officials say they arrested him because they have an extradition treaty with the US that dates back to the 1950s that is still in force.

Indie Trailer Sunday: Pawel Borowski's Polish Thriller 'Zero'
Continuing our new Indie Trailer Sunday tradition, today's new trailer is for a Polish thriller called Zero. It's the latest film from Polish filmmaker Pawel Borowski (of the short I Love You previously). Zero is 24 hours in the lives of a few people in a city and is a complete loop. I don't fully understand the concept, but I have a feeling it might be like an extension of Gaspar Noé's Irreversible, where the film takes the narrative and twists it in a more artistic and weird way. That said, this trailer is absolutely brilliant, and thanks to Twitch, you can check it out below. Although it doesn't have subtitles, it's still really awesome to watch.

First Look: Will Ferrell & Mark Wahlberg in The Other Guys
Usually when we get the first set photos from a forthcoming film they're straight from a cell phone camera or clearly snapped at just the right moment where you can see just a bit of the lead actors faces. But some of these first shots (thanks to the awkwardly named blog Accidental Sexiness via Collider) from the NYC set of Adam McKay's cop comedy The Other Guys look like approved studio publicity shots. We get our first look at Ferrell (apparently the clean-cut type) and Wahlberg (the gritty cop) as well as Damon Wayans Jr. and Rob Riggle doing what he does best: yelling. Anyway, read on below for a look at some of the best shots.
