Sam Raimi's Evil Dead Coming Back to Theaters Next Year!

Evil Dead

Hey, it's Halloween! So how about some of the best damn horror news you'll hear all year long? Grindhouse Releasing is bringing Sam Raimi's original horror classic The Evil Dead back to the big screen next year as a midnight movie. Raimi and producers Robert Tapert and Bruce Campbell gave the go-ahead for a series of Evil Dead revival screenings taking place around the nation starting early next year. "Nothing can prepare an audience for what they are about to see, because nothing punishes an audience like Evil Dead - especially on the big screen," Bruce Campbell said. "I'm really glad it's back. People are gonna be hurt." Oh hell yes!

Watch This: International Trailer for Matt Damon's Green Zone

Green Zone International Trailer

You may have already seen this, but if not, here's your chance. If you have, well, watch it again. Earlier this week the official trailer for Paul Greengrass' Green Zone starring Matt Damon hit the web. It was a great trailer but most people complained that it looked too much like another Bourne movie. Later that same day an international version of the Green Zone trailer hit MSN. It's a different trailer that presents the story in a more coherent and progressive way. It still looks a bit like another Bourne movie, but it's actually a better trailer than the first. Knowing even more of the story, I'm actually more excited to see this. So check it out!

Martin Scorsese Picks 11 Scariest Horror Movies of All Time!

Martin Scorsese

If there is anyone I would want to choose what movies I watch this Halloween weekend (besides Stephen King or Wes Craven), I'd want it to be Oscar winning director Martin Scorsese. He's a genius filmmaker and I'm sure he knows great horror when he sees it. I think this would've been much better coordinated if his new movie Shutter Island was actually out in theaters (damn you Paramount), but either way this is a great list. The Daily Beast asked Scorsese to choose some horror movies for Halloween and he came up with his own list of the 11 Scariest Horror Movies of All Time. Read on to see what great classics he chose!

Check This Out: Creepy Poster for Charisma Carpenter's Psychosis

Charisma Carpenter in Psychosis

This poster should definitely get a few of you in the mood for Halloween. Our horror friends at STYD have debuted the official poster for Reg Traviss' Psychosis starring Charisma Carpenter. This horror thriller is about a horror novelist (Carpenter) who relocates with her husband to a beautiful English mansion. Once there she begins seeing visions of a horrible massacre that happened 15 years earlier. Desperate to prove she isn't losing her mind, Susan must uncover the secrets behind the massacre or risk becoming a victim herself. Sounds fun. Check out this rather creepy poster that reminds me a bit of the Drag Me to Hell poster below.

Original Roger Rabbit Writers Are Back to Write the Sequel

Roger Rabbit

If I were Robert Zemeckis, I'd take this as a sign that I should stop making CGI motion capture movies and go back to live action. The Zemeckis-related news story that has been talked about the most this entire year is the Roger Rabbit sequel that he's been dropping hints about since April. Our last update was back in July during Comic-Con, where Zemeckis confirmed that "the 2D animated characters will remain 2D" if it ever happened. Now Zemeckis reveals to MTV today that they've actually commissioned a screenplay and they've brought back the original two writers, Jeffrey Price and Peter Seaman, to write it. Very good news!

Must Watch: Brand New Trailer for John Hillcoat's The Road

The Road Trailer

The Weinstein Company has debuted a second, brand new trailer for John Hillcoat's The Road adapted from the beloved Cormac McCarthy novel. A lot has changed since the first trailer for The Road debuted in May - mainly that lots of critics and people have finally seen the film (including me, read my review). It not has great buzz and confirmation that it stays true to the themes of the book, including that they never reveal why the world is the way it is, and so on. This new trailer captures how depressing and bleak and hopeless the film feels, which sounds bad, but is actually one of the many reasons why it's such a wonderful film.

Ang Lee Updates His 'Life of Pi' Adaptation, Still Two Years Out

Ang Lee - Life of Pi

Even though Taking Woodstock wasn't as big of a success as he had hoped, Taiwanese director Ang Lee is moving on forward with his head held high. It was first announced in February that Lee would be the latest to take as shot at adapting Yann Martel's novel Life of Pi, about an Indian boy who is the lone survivor of a sunken freighter and winds up sharing a lifeboat with a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan and a Bengal tiger. Lee confirmed with two separate outlets that it is his very next project, but it's still a ways out. "I think I'm going to do Life Of Pi," Lee told Digital Spy recently. "A little boy adrift at sea with a tiger. It's a hard one to crack."

New Sherlock Holmes Facebook Viral Game Launches Online

Sherlock Holmes - 221B

I'm not entirely sure if this is connected with the "Widen your gaze Mr. Holmes" mini-viral from August, however, I get the feeling that this is the next step in that game. Earlier today I received an email in my inbox with a telegram saying: "London seethes with crime -- STOP -- find your partner upon whom you will rely -- STOP -- evidence secured for your advance assessment -- STOP -- the game is afoot -- STOP -- make all haste to 221B now." It then linked to a site located at 221B.sh where users can visit and participate in a viral game on Facebook for the upcoming Sherlock Holmes movie. It's not amazing, but it is a lot of fun.

Early Best Picture Predictions: Invictus & Hurt Locker Lead

The Hurt Locker

I know we've still got a good two months left in the year and most of the heavy-hitting films haven't even been seen by anyone yet, but it's never too early to talk about the Oscars. Over the past week, Tom O'Neil of the LA Times' Gold Derby blog polled some 16 Oscar pundits and film critics to get an early pulse on what they think are top contenders right now for Best Picture. Those polled include well-known film critics like Erik Davis, Pete Hammond, Peter Travers, Jeff Wells, and Susan Wloszczyna. And the list of their top picks might not exactly be what you're expecting. Or maybe it is? Read on for their picks and to tell us your own!

Hugh Jackman Not Returning to Host the Oscars - Who Should?

Hugh Jackman Oscars

Aw shucks! Variety is reporting that Hugh Jackman "quietly turned down the job within the past few weeks." There was much speculation that the Academy might bring back Jackman to host the Oscars once again next March, but that's no longer the case. Last year's presentation was like nothing we've ever seen the Academy do before, with musical numbers and cardboard sets and duets with Anne Hathaway. I enjoyed it, I liked Jackman as the host, now they just need to live up to that or perhaps even improve more this time. So if Jackman is out, who should they pick to host the Oscars? And it can't be another comedian! Or can it?

Hustle & Flow Director Craig Brewer Feeling a Little Footloose?

Craig Brewer

Earlier this week we found out that High School Musical director Kenny Ortega (who's enjoying some sweet success from the Michael Jackson concert doc This Is It) decided to leave the upcoming musical adaptation of Footloose starring Chace Crawford and Julianne Hough. While my mind initially drifted towards Bill Condon (of Dreamgirls) as a great replacement, apparently Paramount is getting the more dramatic edge they wanted (as opposed to Ortega's musical-number-heavy production) as THR's Risky Biz Blog says Hustle & Flow director Craig Brewer is very high on the list of potential replacements to helm the project.

Anthony Hopkins to Play Odin in Kenneth Branagh's Thor!

Anthony Hopkins / Odin

I did not see this coming! No, it won't be Robert De Niro or Jude Law or Brian Blessed, apparently Odin, Thor's father, will be played by none other than Anthony Hopkins in Marvel's upcoming Thor movie. THR's Heat Vision Blog reports that Hopkins is "in negotiations" to play the Norse god and ruler of Asgard in the adaptation being directed by Kenneth Branagh. We already know that the cast also includes Chris Hemsworth as the god of thunder Thor, Tom Hiddleston as his evil brother Loki, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, and apparently Robert De Niro and Jude Law. Talk about a very impressive cast!
