Stellan Skarsgard Joins the Cast of Kenneth Branagh's Thor

Way back before we knew that Chris Hemsworth had been cast to play Thor, one of the originally rumored candidates for the role was Alexander Skarsgard (who is currently on "True Blood"), the son of more well known actor Stellan Skarsgard. According to a report from ComingSoon (that comes from a translation of a Swedish write-up via TT Spektra in Sweden), Stellan Skarsgard revealed that he has joined the cast of Kenneth Branagh's Thor in a role that he can't yet reveal. Stellan is still an incredibly talented actor and I gained even more respect for him after Pirates of the Caribbean (where he played Will Turner's father).
The Swedish article claims "Skarsgård is ready for a role in action movie Thor" and includes this quote: "They wanted me to sign without reading the script. That I refused to do. Then they sent one to me that was so coded that I could only print one copy." And I guess he then decided to sign on? My guess is that he won't have a huge role, but he'll be involved in some integral way, kind of like how Bootstrap Bill was important in Pirates even though he didn't appear that often. With Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Tom Hiddleston, and now Stellan Skarsgard, Kenneth Branagh has rounded up one hell of a great cast for Thor.

As Thor is from Norse mythology, they probably figured they need at least 1 guy from Scandinavian.

Brian Blessed is still Odin last time I checked IMDB, that comment makes even less sense due to the fact that the article says nothing about Stellan being cast as Odin.

He's a great addition to the cast. Anyone worried about portman?

Yeah, amidst this cast I'm kind of hoping Portman's role as the nurse is diminished.
I also am having trouble picturing Hemsworth as Donald Blake if they go that route.
Frankly - Branagh's great but has certainly had some bigger budget misses along the way.
What works on stage is not necessarily what will work in film, as any actor can tell you.
But Brian Blessed, Tom Hiddleston & now Stellan Skarsgard have me VERY excited about this.
How can you not have a guy in it who's name rhymes with ASGARD ~ ? hahaha

Django Why would you want Portman's role to diminish? I have a feeling she is going to steal the show.

If only Alexander was in it…then I could stare at him for the 2 hours.

Alexander should have been in the movie!
oh well, I guess you have to be young, talented, good-looking, really tall, scandinavian to be Thor, oh wait a minute…

they should have donald blake in it i already hate this ultimate comics aura on the upcoming movies, anthony hopkins should be odin(watch instinct he looks like him already)
and why the hell did the give the nick fury role to sam jackson? nick fury was a white dude for maybe 50-60 years so what the hell?

stop crying like a baby the black Nick Fury is based on Sam Jackson anyway if you want to see white Nick Fury go and watch David Hasselhoff version Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. to make you happy. i hate people complaining about Nick Fury is white yes he was white but Marvel went with Ultimate Nick Fury who is black its based on Marvel source material they did not just made him black his already in Marvel comic book universe.

He’s playing an anthropomorphised CGI Mjollnir. Think Lumiere from Beauty and The Beast, but angrier.
