Four New Actors Join Gregg Araki's Sexy Indie 'Kaboom'
October 6, 2009
by Ethan Anderton
Teens and sex are usually a winning combination whether it's raunchy comedy or steamy romance. Whether it's American Pie or Cruel Intentions (is it obvious I'm perpetually stuck in the late 90's?), teens and sex will bring in the young crowds. Hopefully this trend will apply to the upcoming indie Kaboom, a story about "the sexual awakening of a group of college students." THR reports that actors Roxane Mesquida (in her American feature debut), Thomas Dekker (of Fox's "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles"), Kelly Lynch (of Showtime's "The L Word") and Rooney Mara (Tanner Hall) will be joining the sexy indie.
Most of these new members are young, and certainly rising stars. Dekker and Mara will both be appearing in the upcoming remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Mesquida is a successful French actress looking to crossover to American cinema. Shooting for Kaboom is currently underway with writer and director Gregg Araki (Smiley Face, Mysterious Skin) at the helm. This looks like it will be an indie to keep an eye on in the future, especially on the festival circuit. Araki is a good director, but I think its the cast he's lined up for this that will really shine the most. We'll be on the lookout for any more updates about Kaboom as they arrive.

Holy… I don't know about anyone else, but that picture line-up's bloody horrific, they all scare the hell out of me. What the creeping horror is that thing in the third picture? It wants to eat my soul!

these types of movies may be a "winning combination" as far as bringing in young viewers. (but, they'll go see ANYTHING!) i don't think much as to the quality of the types of films you compared this to. this looks to have very little substance. i wouldn't see this with FREE tickets.
what's odd to me, alex is that you seem excited for this shallow stinker but turn your nose up at "the messengers"?……….very strange tastes.

Gregg Araki is Genious. "Doom Generation" "Nowhere" were some of my favorite indies in the 90's

Beavis,
Alex didn't write this post, and doesn't write every post. Please, check the byline before you complain and lash out at any of us writers.
Thanks.

Shut Up Beavis,
How can you tell a movie has "very little substance" from a casting announcement?
With Araki at the helm, this will not be run-of-the-mill; or a "shallow stinker" by any means.
