Danny Boyle's Next Project Shoots Next Year, But What Is It?

One filmmaker we haven't heard a lot from recently is Danny Boyle, which is unfortunate considering I love the guy and want to see him already working on another project. However, The Playlist claims to have figured out exactly what Boyle will be shooting next, a project we've already written about before. Boyle recently talked with Digital Spy about his "next movie" and apparently said it was everything but one single project (or so The Playlist thinks). That project being the one about the Utah mountain climber who had to amputate his own arm with a dull knife when it got pinned down by a boulder while hiking. Bring it!

Boyle confirmed that his next project won't be Bombay-set Maximum City, a sequel to Trainspotting (or the Porno adaptation), 28 Months Later, or My Fair Lady. Boyle goes on to say that he does know what his next project will be, but "I can't quite tell you about it because it's not quite all signed, sealed and sorted out legal-wise. It's based on a true story so there were complications to do with rights, that kind of stuff. We're close to solving it and hope to be shooting in March next year." It just so happens that mountain climber project is based on a true story, so if we can jump to conclusions, well, that sounds like it's next for Boyle.

As a recap, the story is about Aron Ralston, an American climber whose arm got trapped under a boulder while hiking in Utah. After waiting five days he decided the only chance he had for survival was to amputate his own arm. You can watch a video about him talking about the experience on YouTube. In a news report on the project a month ago, it mentions that Ryan Gosling is apparently Boyle's top choice for the role of Ralston. And if they don't change the story, it sounds like it'll be a one-man show (similar to Ryan Reynolds' new project). We'll keep you updated on the status of this project and whatever Boyle decides to make next.

what about that South African set film? that was also based on a true story….jumping too soon there Alex

The South African film ("Johannesburg") was based on a novel if I'm not mistaken…so it wouldn't be a true story so to speak. ;) I think Boyle has stated in past that that film was never going to go ahead either.

Do we really need another Touching the Void? Perhpas this is why Boyle won't make this.

I have read the book written by Ralston called "Between a Rock and a Hard Place" and personally I think the story should be left alone.

I think Danny Boyle can make some great films but in this particular story I think no one needs to make it into a movie. Its a great story on its own and in my opinion it should be left that way.
