Joss Whedon's Cabin in the Woods Pushed Back to Early 2011!

Didn't see this coming! A few sites, including STYD and Collider, are reporting (with confirmation from MGM) that Joss Whedon's new horror movie Cabin in the Woods has been delayed an entire year. It was originally set for release on February 5th, 2010 next year but has been pushed back to January 14th, 2011. Why? Well apparently the "early response to the film has been phenomenal and they're going to spend six months or so converting the picture to 3-D." While that's all good, I also think MGM is trying to rollover their marketing budget on this movie to 2011, because they're not doing too well financially at the moment.
Cabin in the Woods is the very secretive horror project written by "Firefly" and "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon and directed by Cloverfield writer Drew Goddard. Some posters for the movie first popped up at Comic-Con this year and we've heard bits and pieces about the plot, which involves some gimmicked house that a group of people stay in (and are put through some tests). I don't want to spoil any of it, but I've heard that early test screening reports are insanely positive, and not just coming from Whedon fans, but from horror fanatics who say it's just incredible. While that's accurate, I don't know why they feel the need to convert this to 3D?!
I'm slowly starting to appreciate 3D when done well, but I hate when it's applied in post-production. You can tell that the 3D doesn't have as much depth and isn't as immersive (it feels like a gimmick) when it's converted after being shot. As far as I know, Cabin in the Woods has already finished filming. I hate that they're going this route with a horror project that was supposed to already be amazing on its own, but I think MGM is a bit desperate for a huge hit (3D does sell well, just look at The Final Destination). I don't support this and will probably not see Cabin in the Woods in 3D for the first time - I'll just stick with 2D.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! D:
Goddamn it! It's official. 3D blows.
I supported it throughout, watching every single 3D film that came out, and convincing my friends that it's the next revolution of filmmaking, but THIS is a slap in the face. I had high hopes. But this is just too much. If 3D truly is the cause for pushing it back a year, then fuck Digital 3D, we're better off without it.
It looks I'm going to have to drive to the IMAX for Avatar.

are you fucking kidding?
this is goddamn retarded.
I read the script for this a few months back and was really, really excited… but i will NOT see this in 3D, in fact, i'll do what I did with harry potter after they pushed it back a year: sneak in, and NOT pay for it.
I know my $10 dollars isn't going to hurt the company, but jesus. Someone has to do something about Hollywood being pricks.

I feel like I've expressed my hatred for 3D too many times, and all there is left for me to do is gear up and ride the waves and hope that soon enough we return to placid waters.

I like 3D when it adds to the experience and part of the production from the beginning. But this is the very definition of adding 3D for gimmicks sake.
Fuck you MGM, go fucking bankrupt for all I care.
