Angelina Jolie to Replace Charlize Theron in The Tourist
October 12, 2009
by Ethan Anderton
Spyglass Entertainment's thriller The Tourist is having a lot of trouble losing key talent, and if they're not careful, they're going to end up with the fat kid on their dodgeball team. Back in August, we reported that Sam Worthington would be replacing Tom Cruise, but now THR's Risky Biz Blog reports that not only has Charlize Theron dropped from the production to be potentially replaced by Angelina Jolie, but now they're also looking for a new director as Bharat Nalluri (who directed the original) is off the project. Sounds like The Tourist and Green Hornet are going to duke it out for most plagued production of 2009.
The role in question is that of the lead character who is described as one-part seductress, and one-part action-star. The Tourist is a remake of the 2005 French thriller Anthony Zimmer which "centers on an American tourist who, on behalf of Interpol, goes undercover to entrap a former lover who's a suspected global criminal." Personally, I think the role sounds like a much better fit for Jolie than Theron. While there's plenty of room for female action stars, Theron's attempts haven't exactly been stellar (Aeon Flux anyone?) whereas Jolie has come through with fun (though over-the-top) action films like Wanted and Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Certainly I could be seduced by either one, but Jolie could probably actually kick my ass.
As far as the directing gig goes, producers are on the hunt for the right director to pair with Jolie, and with production still slated to being in early 2010, it sounds like they're acting very quickly to fill the vacancy. Hopefully this is the last we hear of any key members being replaced on The Tourist, but we'll let you know!

I think Angelina Julie will be a perfect fit for seductress/action roles. She has had enough experience in seducing men in her real life. On the other hand, Charlize can do any role she wants. I love her acting.
P.S.Mr and Mrs Smith might be very important to Brangelina but, nobody even watched that stupid movie.
