Mandalay to Grow 'Horns' from Stephen King's Son Joe Hill

Okay, so we thought that when Hollywood went to the Bible for film ideas that they were all out of other books, but Mandalay Pictures proves us wrong as Variety reports that the production company just picked up the rights to Horns, a novel set to be published in February 2010 from Joe Hill, son of writer Stephen King. Horns is "a love story driven by horror and vengeance that revolves around a 26-year-old man who wakes up one morning from a blackout hangover and finds horns sprouting out of his head. As the horns grow bigger by the day, the reason why seems to lie in the unsolved murder of his girlfriend." Provocative.

Hill (pictured above with dad) will serve as executive producer as Mandalay Pictures adds Horns to its roster of recent adaptations (like Lauren Weisberger's "Chasing Harry Winston" and Spencer Quinn's "Dog on It") that they've decided to option and develop in-house before looking for financing and taking them around to studios. Apparently this process will "speed up the development process while also maintaining more creative control." Either way, Universal will have first dibs on Horns as they have a first-look deal with Mandalay. As of now we'll just have to sit and wait until the book is actually published before we know more about this story. If you're curious, you can pre-order it on Amazon for release next February. Whenever I read Stephen King's name, it always triggers the same thought:
I wonder if I will live long enough to witness someone making a movie adaptation of The Dark Tower series. Probably not. And just one movie (or 3) wouldn't be enough anyways. It wouldn't even scratch the surface of the story; it's way too complex. Kinda like LoTR.

Oh well, maybe when I am in my 80's some ballsy, young, incredibly talented director will come along and give it a try.

Yes, I would love to see Dark Tower adapted one of these days. I hope I'm alive to see it and 7 movies would have to be made in order to do the series justice.

By the way, what ever happened to the "Lost" guys writing a screenplay for The Gunslinger?

I agree that they should try that series, but they usually mess up with his stories. The stuff he writes about it can be hard to put in film, but with all the technology these days I would think they could.

I'm interested in this though.
