Bold Films Next Big Mission Will Be Action-Thriller Psy-Ops
October 14, 2009
by Ethan Anderton
As many of people have already noticed, adaptations of previously established intellectual properties are dominating cinema. So when there's an idea that comes along that isn't based on a pre-existing property, there's already a part of me that has a predilection towards liking it, simply because the idea is fresh. Such is the case here as THR reports that Bold Films (Legion) has announced a project called Psy-Ops, an action thriller from visual effects artist and first-time director Stuart Maschwitz about a covert U.S. military unit of psychological operatives who specialize in exploiting their target's deepest fears. So far so good, right?
But it looks like their mastery of instilling fear into the hearts of others is turned upon them as a routine mission in the Amazon Basin thrusts the team into something more terrifying than they ever could have imagined. There's a crazy less-than-six-degrees of separation between the creative minds behind Psy-Ops so bear with me. Director Stuart Maschwitz founded the visual effects company The Orphanage with visual effects artist Scott Stewart (director of the upcoming films Legion and Priest) who wrote the screenplay for Psy-Ops with Gus Krieger, the writer behind The Killing Room. So there's your creative team for this.
With this trio, Bold hopes to "combine the elements of such 1980s action flicks as Predator and Aliens with the psychological tone and visual realism of such 21st century movies as Black Hawk Down and the Bourne series." Sounds like they're also inspired by the upcoming Men Who Stare at Goats. What do you think?

why not just adapt Psi-Ops? Basically the premise of Psy-Ops sounds similar to Psi-Ops…wait…I got a headache!

#2… You mean the videogame? I got it. You are right, this does not sound very original.

#3 I wanna give this a chance but they sound somewhat similar.

a difference I guess, but Psi-Ops deals with psychokinesis, (i.e. pyokinesis, telekinesis, mind control, etc) and from the sound of it Pys-Ops seems like Psi-Ops.
