Tommy Lee Jones to Direct and Co-Star in The Lincoln Lawyer
October 14, 2009

Tommy Lee Jones has had a pretty fruitful acting career, but more recently he has taken a turn towards work behind the camera. In 2005 he made his feature directorial debut with the western crime-drama The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. While I haven't gotten the chance to see it yet, a 7.6 IMDB rating and an 84% on Rotten Tomatoes makes it look like it was a solid debut in the director's chair. Now THR reports that Jones has just set up his next feature directing project with The Lincoln Lawyer, a legal thriller announced back in March which will also have Tommy Lee Jones co-starring with Matthew McConaughey.
Based on Michael Connolly's 2005 novel, this follows "Mickey Haller, a wheeler-dealer Los Angeles lawyer who operates out of the back of his Lincoln." Haller is fine with defending garden-variety criminals until he lands the case of a lifetime: defending a Beverly Hills playboy accused of murder. McConaughey will play Haller, but it's unclear what role Jones will take in the script written by John Romano (Nights in Rodanthe). THR points out that both Jones and McConaughey had breakout roles in the 90's as characters in the justice system with The Fugitive and A Time to Kill respectively and now they're teaming up in a legal thriller.
Both actors have a strong on-screen presence in their own way, so it will be interesting to see the dynamic between them. Sounds like production on this will start fairly soon, so keep an eye out for more updates.

3 Burials was pretty damn good. The mere mention of McConaughey scares me.
