Scott Derrickson Directing Lakeshore's Thriller The Living

After last directing Fox's The Day the Earth Stood Still remake from last year, Scott Derrickson has been hired by Lakeshore Entertainment to direct the supernatural suspense thriller The Living. The project is based on an original pitch from Derrickson and producer Paul Harris Boardman. Derrickson last worked with Lakeshore to direct The Exorcism of Emily Rose back in 2005, a film which seemed to be well received in the horror community. Unfortunately, the exact plot details of The Living are being kept under wraps for the time being, though with a title like that I'm curious to find out more. Hopefully we'll know more soon.
After The Day the Earth Stood Still, I'd much rather see Derrickson direct another sci-fi like the Hyperion Cantos (which he's been attached to since January) or the Paradise Lost project he told me about in my interview with him. I never saw The Exorcism of Emily Rose and I'm not the biggest horror fan, so I'm not that interested in The Living, even though I'll probably see it anyway. I think most people are still unhappy with Derrickson over The Day the Earth Stood Still remake, but I'd say it's worth giving him another chance to prove he's a great director, whether it be with horror, sci-fi, or another "supernatural suspense thriller."

I'd rather see PARADISE LOST translated to film by a different director anyway. I hope they pass the chair to someone with more vision.

I saw The Exorcism of Emily Rose, it was alright. The Day the Earth Stood Still…eh…but I guess I would give him another chance.

Loved Emily Rose, but it will take A LOT to make up for The Day the Earth Stood Still. Honestly, one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
