Recycled Plot for Selena Gomez Film is Not 'What Boys Want'
October 19, 2009
by Ethan Anderton
As a matter of fact, I'm not sure anyone who isn't a teen girl would want this, but apparently the demand is high enough as Variety reports New Line has picked up What Boys Want, a comedy pitch for Disney star Selena Gomez to headline written by Amy Andelson and Emily Meyer. The story is all too familiar as it finds Gomez's character with the sudden ability to hear the thoughts of the boys around her. We've seen this trick before with the Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt comedy What Women Want, and now we can cue the jokes of boys being obsessed with breasts, masturbation and the random non sequitur's of immature humor.
Of course, there's the chance that this could bring some laughs just as all the different iterations of a story like Big have their own certain charm for different audiences. After all 13 Going on 30 had it's moments, mainly because Jennifer Garner's childlike wonder was oh-so charming. But with Selena Gomez attached it looks like this will be a similar endeavor to Zac Efron's 17 Again. Gomez, who has gained fame from her work on Disney's series "Wizards of Waverly Place," is certainly a pretty face, but because of her Disney branding I can't see thing being anything more than a PG family film. But of course Lindsay Lohan got her start in Disney (The Parent Trap remake) and made waves with her performance in the surprisingly funny Tina Fey scripted Mean Girls, so I wouldn't mind being proven wrong again. What do you guys think?

My first thought was that this can't possibly be a teen movie, but I guess they'll just make things all nice. >.>

She's actually one of the better Disney actors…If not the best. Her acting career will go far but her singing will not, even though her voice isn't that bad.
I will for sure see this when it comes out!

kris, how old are you? and if you're not 12 years old…………why would you see this? unless your a kid, this sounds really awful.
it looks like disney once again is ringing the teeny bopper bell on the cash cow.

They'll have to "Disnify" this concept a lot to make it palatable for the PG crowd. Trust me–women would curl up in the fetal position if they truly found out What Boys Want. If you think you know, trust me–you don't.
And Dave Chappelle used this idea (rather well, I must say) in a sketch. It was funny but realistic.

unless you're 13 and under, no one in their right mind would pay money to see this. Best case scenario it'll have a "mean girls" type of outcome and more people will enjoy it.
Worst case? herbie? lol..

She's pretty bad and all my cousins talk about is how she's a joke and Miley is awesome. Now, the fact they think Miley is awesome cancels their opinion, kind of. Still, they still hate her and they say most of their friends do. Yes, this is what goes on at Sunday lunch. I'm between the adults and kids, being in that middle ground. I don't know, she doesn't seem like anything great, her singing sucks, and honestly…I think the other she stars with is more attractive. Something about Selena is just ugly but it's Disney, maybe they're trying to show ugly isn't bad?

I will never see this movie. But Selena is adorable. Hopefully she survives Disney and gets to make real movies one day.

Selena is absolutely adorable. Her latest CD got a 4 1/2 star rating from AllMusic Guide, by the way.
Not too shabby.

All of you co-signing/supporting this little girl need to both shut the fuck up and grow up.

what a gorgeous little thing, Disney has always captivated me of how they always get the most prettiest gals

How old is that girl? Um because everything that goes through my mind in that whole movie scenario might have been a felony.

Felony? I'd get the death sentence and start a race-riot. I'm not racist mind you, I just gots a demon in me.
(Anyone else can't get that line out of your head? Virtual pat-on-head for whoever guesses the tv show it's from)

I like that kid she looks like she got potentials, hope she doesn't go down Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan or Miley Cyrus's road.It would be a true shame.

#13 I think it's a tad too soon to say Miley Cyrus is down the same road as the others included in the list since she's has not done anything bad. Yeah this movie sounds like it has some potential, just can't be PG and in other words I don't know how it could be.

#3: I'm 19, I watch a lot of Disney cause my lil sis is always watching it. If you haven't seen here movie she had with her show she actually acted quite well in it.
Plus Is this an actual Disney movie? I see they refer to her as a Disney actor…so kinda confused. o.o

#2 i completely agree with you
#3 i love selena and im fourteen
#6 Miley is so not awesome. please tell your monkey cousins because it seems they only like listening to frogs croak, oops meant miley. by the way miley is ugly. where i live miley is a joke and selena and demi are amazing.
#14 you must be 10 or something because it seems you dont know about the stuff Miley does. plus it seems like people know miley for the scandals not the talent she thinks she has like the other girls

#16 I'm 14 and I hate her, but I think it's unfair to put her in the same category as Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan yet at least. She hasn't yet done drugs (or at least been under the influence in the public eye) or been photographed with no underwear on. So I'm not sure exactly what u would consider a scandal.

Selena Gomez is actually really good at comedic timing. Which makes her a good actress in my book. You can't hate on her just because she works on a disney show. (I'm 90% sure she's why Wizards of Waverly Place won an Emmy). So let's give her a chance.
I'm a bit surprised 14 year olds are on this site.
