Stephen Fry is Writing Peter Jackson's Dambusters Remake?

Dambusters

Peter Jackson has been a very busy man recently. Not only did he produce and help successfully release District 9 this summer, but he's finishing up the last bit of work on The Lovely Bones, due out in December. He's also been helping direct The Adventures of Tintin with Steven Spielberg and, let's not forget, writing and preparing The Hobbit to shoot with Guillermo del Toro. However, according to a new report on Ain't It Cool News tonight, there's another project he's been working on - Dambusters, the remake of classic 1955 war film directed by Michael Anderson. And if all goes well, it may be the very next project he directs.

AICN has a report from a reader (which makes me a bit worried about the accuracy of this) who attended a charity event with English actor/writer/comedian Stephen Fry. During the Q&A, Fry apparently revealed that Peter Jackson's Dambusters remake "was in pre-production" and that Fry himself was actually writing the screenplay. He also said that Jackson had already created (and built?) the Lancaster Bombers down in New Zealand in order to prepare for shooting. No dates were mentioned, but this is a lot information that we haven't ever heard before, which is why I'm both excited by this news and a bit unsure of it being true.

Jackson also has another project called Temeraire - the one about dragons - in the works as well. That one also seems to have been in development long enough for it to be Jackson's next project following The Lovely Bones. Then again, he has been talking about Dambusters for a while, and if he has indeed already created planes for use in the movie, then it sounds like that's what he'll be jumping into next all the while Guillermo del Toro is directing The Hobbit (or so it seems)? As for Stephen Fry writing, I'd rather have him star in it than write it, but I'm sure he'll do a good job anyway. We'll let you when we have an update on Dambusters.

Well….
During a Television series he recently made (Last Chance To See, check it out on EZTV.it),
Steven Fry had a face to face meeting with Peter Jackson, in front of a Lancaster Bomber, at Weta Workshop!
This seems to have a grain of truth, methinks.

Peter Jackson is NOT directing Dambusters. Christian Rivers, longtime PJ collaborator and Academy Award winner, is directing the movie according to WETA - http://www.wetanz.com/who-you-gonna-call-the-dam-busters/

Let's hope they changed the name of the dog in the film since the first movie. Otherwise we'll have Harry Connick Jr. on his soapbox again.
