Three More Actors Join Political Drama The Whistleblower

At the risk of sounding uneducated, I'll admit only within the past couple years did I become aware of the term "whistleblower" as well as the sort of subgenre in drama focusing on the brave characters who dare to take down powerful people and organizations. Variety reports that Monica Belluci (Shoot 'Em Up), David Strathairn (The Bourne Ultimatum) and Vanessa Redgrave (Venus) are joining Rachel Weisz (The Brothers Bloom) in the true story of a policewoman who uncovers an international scandal in a film called, aptly, The Whistleblower. The film is a Canadian-German co-production in partnership with Barry Films.
The film, which begins shooting in Romania next week directed by Larysa Kondracki, highlights a scandal involving both American contractors and the United Nations in postwar Bosnia. While Weisz is playing the title character Kathryn Bolkovac, a U.N. peacekeeper whom co-writers Ellis Kirwan and Larysa Kondracki (making her directorial debut) based the screenplay on, there is no word on what roles the other three new cast members will be filling. Having enjoyed Michael Clayton and the less conventional whistleblower story of The Informant! it sounds like this could be interested. We'll keep you posted on any further updates.

Come on, Alex, you should have put Good Night, Good Luck for David Strathairn instead of The Bourne Ultimatum. It was his Oscar-nominated portrayal of Edward R. Murrow after all.
The term whistleblower should have been apparent after movies like The Insider, Silkwood, and The China Syndrome. And as a subgenre you have A Civil Action, The Rainmaker, Runaway Jury, Erin Brockovich, North Country, etcetera.
Maybe you should check out some of those.

I agree with Travis that "Good Night and Good Luck" should have been used instead of Bourne Ultimatum. That's the first thing I thought of when I heard that Straithairn had been cast.
While I'm unfamiliar with Belucci, the casting of Straithairn and Redgrave has put this on my "films to watch" list.
