Neill Blomkamp's Next Sci-Fi Project Gets the Greenlight!

Looks like we won't be seeing Neill Blomkamp direct District 10 anytime soon, as he's directing another original sci-fi project next. The BFDealMemo blog reports that Media Rights Capital has committed funding for Blomkamp's next film, a currently untitled original sci-fi film that will begin production by mid-2010. MRC is giving Blomkamp creative freedom and a production commitment that isn't contingent on domestic distribution; he will also get an ownership stake in the finished product. However, Peter Jackson will not be back to produce this, but Blomkamp say that isn't of any major concern for him on his second outing.
"MRC is letting me make the film I want to make and that is by far the most important thing here," Neill said to BFDealMemo. "The film will hopefully be commercial, but it is very much a singular film, that comes directly from me. District 9 was a bit different. I was learning the process then, under Peter Jackson's wing. He had control, but was awesome enough to let me make the film I wanted to." Blomkamp will immediately start writing and preparing the visual effects, which will be a key part of the project. The film will be modest by sci-fi standards, but it will certainly cost more than District 9, which was made for roughly $30 million.
"I'm not particularly interested in massive budget films, or creating huge spectacles that some young directors might be attracted to," Blomkamp said. “Hopefully, this will be a bit unique, very much a reflection of me. It is absolutely another science fiction film, quite different from District 9, but some of the blending of genres and the tone might be within the same realm." Back at Comic-Con, Blomkamp told SlashFilm about what the new project will be about: "It's totally original, it's my own story… It's set on another planet, but it's cool. It's violent, very violent, and very unique hopefully." Can't wait to find out more about this one!

was looking forward to see district 9. saw him… bid dissapointed. expected more out of it.
some action scenes where over the top. 
hope he does a better job with his next movie. altough district 9 wasent that bad.

Neil Blomkamp is an inspiring guy, they made that film for $30 million, some directors have been tryiong to make films as good as that fot 5 times as much and falling well short of even coming close.
I look forward to seeing anything he makes.
