Bruckheimer & Straczynski Adapting 2K's Shattered Union
October 27, 2009
by Alex Billington
Seems like Jerry Bruckheimer is excited to adapt even more video games. Variety reports that he is set to adapt Shattered Union, published by 2K Games, and has hired screenwriter J. Michael Straczynski to write the script. In the game, states secede from the US and form their own governments that wage a civil war against each other after Washington DC is wiped out in a nuclear blast and chaos ravages the nation. Players control one of the warring group of states, like the California Commonwealth, Republic of Texas and New England Alliance, or a European peacekeeping unit sent to reunify America. Sounds like fun war action.
As we already know, Bruckheimer is poised to unleash one big video game adaptation to audiences next year - Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Straczynski, on the other hand, has a variety of scripts under his belt. He helped write Ninja Assassin, due out this Thanksgiving, as well as the Silver Surfer movie, a Forbidden Planet reboot, the World War Z adaptation, and Clint Eastwood's Changeling a few years back. This game definitely seems like something Bruckheimer would be making a movie out of - it'll be like The Patriot meets Transformers (or Black Hawk Down), right? Until we hear more, I say you just pick up a copy of the game.

Reading the storyline on wikipedia it doesn't sound bad and it would probably make a really interesting and engaging movie if in the right hand… but I could see this movie being a typical Hollywood flick with a forced message and a whole lot of lame action.

hmm looks a bit like Jericho, but with more action.
Still wonder why they cancelled that show. It was great.
Hopefully this movie will have a good storyline and being fan of jerry i guess he might pull it off quiet good :p
