Adam Sandler Will Play Both Jack and Jill in a Jack and Jill Movie

Adam Sandler has fallen into a relatively diverse career. After his star-making turn on "Saturday Night Live," I've enjoyed his immature comedic stylings in films like Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison, but it's Sandler's performances in Reign Over Me, Punch-Drunk Love (a personal favorite) and recently Funny People which have commanded my respect in showing he can do much more than silly voices and sudden bursts into angry fits of rage. But it looks like Sandler is navigating back into more comedic grounds as Variety announces he will take on twin roles as the twin siblings in the romantic comedy Jack and Jill.
Of course Sandler will be producing under his Happy Madison banner with longtime partner Jack Giarraputo, but no word on who will be directing the script written by Steve Koren (Bruce Almighty) who has worked with Sandler since his days back at "SNL" and on films like Click. With Sandler taking on both the brother and sister roles of Jack and Jill, there's no doubt that there will be some silly to the script, but I'm hoping that Sandler in drag isn't too over the top. John Travolta in drag from 2007's Hairspray was about all the cross-dressing I needed for the next decade or so.
We know Sandler has the box office draw, but I'm hoping that he brings some quality comedy with him too. After being friends with Judd Apatow for so long, I gotta believe that there's some better material in Sandler than what has showed up in his recent work like the frustratingly mediocre I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and the atrocious bomb that was You Don't Mess with the Zohan. Hopefully he'll prove himself up to the challenge when his upcoming project Grown-Ups reunites him with fellow comedians Chris Rock, David Spade, and Rob Schneider. As for Jack and Jill, well, let's just hope it doesn't suck! Thoughts?

Yeah it's not like he ever stopped or is going to stop making movies that come from his comedic roots. Recently, you had Funny People, but you also had Zohan and Bedtime Stories. This will probably be along the lines of Bedtime Stories and Click. Fantasy mixed in with some non-fiction to grab on your emotional strings a little, which Sandler can do.

Based on this alone, I'd easily dismiss this as yet another cash cow cookie cutter comedy from Sandler. I'll wait to see who else will be in this and who's directing. If it's one of his normal directors (Dennis Dugan or Frank Coraci) and only really a bunch of his typical castmates (Schneider, Swardson, et. al.), I might be prone to pass on this one, something I've practically never done for a Sandler film.
I'll still see Grown Ups since the premise of that doesn't sound as absurd as it does here.

Not really a fan of the double roles in movies, but Adam Sandler is funny so I will go see it.
