Interview: Where the Wild Things Are Director Spike Jonze!
This may only be his third feature film, but I still think it's appropriate to call Spike Jonze a visionary filmmaker. His work, both on the big screen and on the small screen (all of his music videos), is some of the most honest, creative, and unique I've ever seen. A few weeks back, after seeing Spike's Where the WIld Things Are, I went to the Beverly Hilton Hotel to interview Mr. Jonze, and he invited me into bed. I'm not even joking - Spike and I got into bed together (not under the covers, of course!) to talk about bringing Maurice Sendak's beloved children's book to life on the big screen exactly the way he first envisioned it.

Ridley Scott Remaking UK's Red Riding Trilogy for Columbia
Columbia Pictures announced earlier today via Variety that they've acquired remake rights to the UK TV mini-series known as Red Riding, a trilogy of feature films that have been playing the festival circuit this year. The studio is "negotiating" with Steve Zaillian (Gangs of New York, American Gangster) to write the script and Ridley Scott (Gladiator, American Gangster, Body of Lies) to direct. Zaillian has already been working with Columbia, as he was hired to rewrite the Steven Soderbergh Moneyball script. Both Scott and Zaillian will produce the remake along with Andrew Eaton of Revolutionary Films, who produced the mini.

Clive Owen & Catherine Keener 'Trust' in David Schwimmer
After leaving behind his past as Ross from NBC's sitcom "Friends," David Schwimmer made a jump behind the camera directing such comedic fare as Run, Fatboy, Run with Simon Pegg and episodes of HBO's series "Little Britain USA." Though his success as a director hasn't been stellar, he's certainly no Uwe Boll. Now Schwimmer has a new task ahead of him as Variety reports that Schwimmer is now taking the leap into darker waters as he will direct Clive Owen (The International) and Catherine Keener (Where the Wild Things Are) in Trust, a dark drama about the damaging effects an online sexual predator has on a family.

Check This Out: Creepy Japanese Poster for The Descent 2
There are a handful of new posters out today (Me and Orson Welles, Edge of Darkness) but my favorite brand new one is this Japanese poster for The Descent 2. I love the designs that come out of Japan for promo materials and posters with intense close-ups and very dark colors, and this is one of those kinds of posters. I won't say it's the most original design I've ever seen, but I definitely love the look of it, especially the shot of the creature hidden in the lower right corner. I prefer that the creature is shown smaller so it doesn't give away too much or scare moviegoers. Anyway, check it out below thanks to ShockTillYouDrop!

Heartbreaking First Trailer for Lasse Hallström's Dear John
Get ready to cry watching this. Sony has debuted the trailer for Dear John in high def on Moviefone. This stars Channing Tatum, Amanda Seyfried, and Richard Jenkins, and is about two young lovers split apart by the Iraq war who keep in touch via letters. It's an adaption of a Nicholas Sparks novel, which means lots of women are going to love it. There are some beautiful shots in this and Richard Jenkins, oh man, he looks like he could get an Oscar for this role. I also don't normally like Channing Tatum, but for the first time, this trailer actually makes me wonder if he can actually act? I guess we'll find out when this hits next February.

Another Inspirational Teacher Film on the Way: Speed Boyz
Like the uplifting sports films we've all come to expect every year, another subgenre has become almost as predictable in its execution: the story of an inspirational teacher showing a group of misfit kids that they're underestimating their potential as he drives them towards accomplishing a seemingly impossible goal. Alcon Entertainment is throwing another one of these stories our way as THR reports that they have purchased a pitch called Speed Boyz about "real-life engineer-turned-teacher Simon Hauger, who inspired a group of troubled Philadelphia high schoolers to win a competition to build an alternative-fuel vehicle."

Bromance Blossoms Again with Summit's 'We Love You'
The term "bromance" has become a popular buzz word for male-buddy-driven comedies such as Humpday and I Love You, Man that have focused on the close-knit heterosexual relationships of two male friends. Honestly, I hate word fusion like this, including the trendy showbiz abbreviations that are common in the Hollywood trades (Rom-com? Are you too busy for two words?). THR has announced another "bromantic comedy" to toss into the mix with Summit Pictures' Alan Yang scripted comedy We Love You, the story of two close friends who discover they're dating the same woman and the hilarity that ensues after that.

Jon Favreau Confirms He Will Not Be Directing The Avengers
We've heard off and on for a few years now, right from Jon Favreau himself, that he's been interested in actually directing Marvel's The Avengers movie, due out sometime in 2012 (if all goes as planned). Our most recent update was back in March, with an anonymous scoop on AICN claiming that Marvel really wants Favreau to direct but isn't sure there is enough time for him to do it after Iron Man 2 (but that was before they pushed Avengers to 2012). MTV recently caught up with Favreau and got an update from him about The Avengers. Unfortunately, he's not going to direct it, but that might not be a bad thing after all.

Must Watch: Intense Trailer for Mel Gibson's Edge of Darkness
Warner Brothers has debuted the official trailer for Martin Campbell's Edge of Darkness starring Mel Gibson and Ray Winstone today on Yahoo. The movie is about a homicide detective who starts to investigate his own daughter's death and uncovers a secret life as well as corporate cover-up and government collusion. I love a good mystery and this just looks awesome, especially with Gibson kicking ass and Winstone being all mysterious. I really love Martin Campbell, that guy can do no wrong, and his action intensity is just second-to-none. Anyway, if you're looking for a damn good thriller to finally be very excited about, just start here!

Gorgeous UK Poster for Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
Another gorgeous new UK poster for Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus has hit the web today. I first saw this poster on SlashFilm and fell in love with it as well (just like everyone is once they see it). I love how all the little Terry Gilliam "trinkets" are popping out of every side, it's a very fitting poster for the film, and the beautiful Lily Cole sitting nude is just... wow. I'm in London this week (where it hits theaters starting next Friday) and I've seen a lot of the blue posters on buses, but none of these. This is some of the best marketing for a Terry Gilliam movie I've ever seen. And don't forget to watch the trailer!

Bret Easton Ellis & Gus Van Sant Writing a Suicide Screenplay
Oscar nominated director Gus Van Sant may already have another project in the works (Restless), but that's not stopping him from teaming with author Bret Easton Ellis (The Informers, Rules of Attraction) to write what sounds like a wholly depressing piece of cinema. Variety reports that Van Sant and Ellis are adapting The Golden Suicides, a Nancy Jo Sales article from Vanity Fair, about the double suicide (in 2007) of the artist and socialite couple Theresa Duncan and Jeremy Blake. Though Van Sant certainly has the experience behind the lens, it sounds like he will only be brought on board as a writer for this project.

Watch This: Trailer for Carla Gugino's Women in Trouble
Screen Media has debuted the official trailer for Women in Trouble starring the lovely Carla Gugino over on Apple. If you don't know what this is, Women in Trouble is an ensemble film about 10 women and the trouble in their lives. But these aren't ordinary women: they're strippers and call girls. Carla Gugino plays real life porn star Elektra Luxx. She's joined by other beauties including Emmanuelle Chriqui, Adrianne Palicki, Marley Shelton, and Connie Britton, and flanked by a few guys like Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Simon Baker. As sexy as this is, it kind of looks straight-to-DVD quality, but I'm still interested in checking it out.
