Bryan Singer Still Considering a Return to the X-Men Franchise
This isn't the first time we've heard this, but the Hollywood Reporter finally talked with director Bryan Singer in person and got him to open up about a return to the big screen X-Men franchise that he created. As we all know, Fox is trying to develop quite a few X-Men spin-offs, prequels, and sequels, including X-Men: First Class, X-Men Origins: Magneto, the Wolverine sequel, and Deadpool. Back in June, Singer was quoted as saying he'd "love to return to that universe," meaning the comic book universe. In August, hidden in a Variety story, they hinted that Singer "has been flirting with directing X-Men: First Class."

Best Animated Feature Category Might Have Five Nominees
Even though we're not an Oscar blog, that doesn't mean I don't like to occasionally talk about awards buzz. One category of the Oscars that I'm always nervous about is the Best Animated Feature Film category, which usually (and deservedly) ends up going to the latest Pixar feature (which it should this year too), but occasionally ends up going to someone else (like when Wallace & Gromit or Happy Feet won). The category has usually featured only three nominees, but word is that might finally be bumped up to five this year. It's not due to a change in rules, it's simply that there are enough animated movies to allow for five nominees.

Indie Trailer Sunday: Antonio Campos' Intense 'Afterschool'
Today's indie trailer is for a film by New York filmmaker Antonio Campos. It's called Afterschool and premiered at Cannes in 2008. You may recognize Michael Stuhlbarg as the headmaster because he stars in the Coen Brothers' A Serious Man. This is about an internet-addicted prep-school student who captures the drug overdose of two girls on video. That doesn't sound that intriguing, but this trailer is pretty intense, and by the end of it I was sold. I really want to see this, I'm amazed it's slipped through the cracks until now. You may think you know what's coming, but it seems like it has some big twists. Check out the trailer below!

Original Song from Up in the Air Won't Be Eligible for an Oscar
Why does this seem to happen every year? Steve Pond over at The Wrap reports that the song titled "Up in the Air" that plays in Jason Reitman's new film Up in the Air will most likely not end up getting Oscar consideration (even though it deserves it) because of some ridiculous rules that are a part of the Original Song category. Since most people haven't seen Up in the Air yet, the song plays in the end credits second half. It was written by Kevin Renick, a St. Louis musician who gave Reitman the song on a cassette tape after a Q&A. He had written it when he lost his job and it fit perfectly in the film and Jason decided to use it.

Check These Out: All Five Character Posters for Toy Story 3
As expected, Disney has released four more posters to make a total of five new characters posters for Toy Story 3 this weekend. The trailer arrives online officially on Monday - stay tuned to see it then. It's exciting to see the whole gang back again on the big screen. Although I think we're missing some key characters like Woody's horse Bullseye, Mr. Potato Head, and Slinky, his dog. Don't fear though, they are all in the trailer. I have a feeling once these start to show up in movie theaters, the buzz will really start to pick up. Though that actually makes me wonder... How many people out there don't yet know that Toy Story 3 is being made?

Must Watch: Second Official Trailer for Lee Daniels' Precious
Lionsgate has debuted a second "internet only" trailer for Lee Daniels' Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire on Apple tonight. I have a feeling this is going to win Best Picture. If it does, then you heard it hear first. I've seen this film and it's a phenomenal film but it's very emotionally draining, so much so that I haven't seen it for a second time yet. It's been playing at every single film festival around the world - Sundance, Cannes, Toronto, London, New York, Tokyo - and has been winning awards at almost every fest. If that's not a sign, then I don't know what else is. I highly suggest everyone give this great film a chance.

Joss Whedon's Cabin in the Woods Pushed Back to Early 2011!
Didn't see this coming! A few sites, including STYD and Collider, are reporting (with confirmation from MGM) that Joss Whedon's new horror movie Cabin in the Woods has been delayed an entire year. It was originally set for release on February 5th, 2010 next year but has been pushed back to January 14th, 2011. Why? Well apparently the "early response to the film has been phenomenal and they're going to spend six months or so converting the picture to 3-D." While that's all good, I also think MGM is trying to rollover their marketing budget on this movie to 2011, because they're not doing too well financially at the moment.

Neil Marshall and Ghost House Pictures Will Burst in 3-D
Sam Raimi has always had a penchant for turning what's usually cheesy and wholly unbelievable into fun motion pictures. While the Evil Dead series could easily have turned into horror junk, it instead reached cult classic status quickly. And with the Spider-Man franchise, I think Raimi successfully blended melodrama with spectacular action for a mostly fantastic (forget about the third one) comic book film series. Raimi's Ghost House Pictures will team-up with The Descent director Neil Marshall (seen above) to bring what looks to be a somewhat silly story in a very cool package with the nearly self-explanatory title Burst 3-D.

Lars von Trier Will Be Bringing Disaster to Planet Melancholia
Recently Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier has been at the center of a lot of crazy buzz and controversy surrounding his newest film Antichrist, which has been criticized extensively for its misogynistic tones and emphasis on explicit sexual violence. Personally, I won't watch a film unless it has exorbitant amounts of both. Okay, that's a lie, but the truth is that von Trier doesn't seem to ever let criticism stop him as Variety announces that his next project will be Melancholia, a "psychological drama-cum-disaster movie" (doesn't that sound dirty in itself?). The only plot details known are that it's not an alien invasion movie.

Rumor: Ivan Reitman May Be Back to Direct Ghostbusters 3?
We stopped reporting on Ghostbusters 3 a while ago because every update was some bullshit rumor or a quote that wouldn't make any sense. However, our friends at Bloody-Disgusting (who always have reliable sources) have an interesting update on the project today that I just have to throw out. They say that Ivan Reitman, who directed the original two Ghostbusters movies, is attached to potentially direct Ghostbusters 3. "While he's attached, the word is that he hasn't decided whether or not he really wants to direct, yet." Not sure what that means exactly, probably that he's not 100% on-board, but this is still great to hear. Right?

Abrams, Kurtzman, and Orci on Big Ideas for a Star Trek Sequel
With less than three months left until 2010, I've started to think back over the movies I've seen this year. One that continually floats to the top in terms of being a movie that I just loved every minute of is J.J. Abrams' Star Trek. It may be odd to hear news about a sequel right now, but Paramount is doing a big promo for its DVD release, which is why J.J. Abrams and writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are out talking with press (via Collider). The sequel is just barely being developed, and even though they're still "just brainstorming," the ideas seem to be there, and the three each hint at what we might see in a sequel.

Yet Another Great Toy Story 3 Teaser Poster - Roar, It's Rex!
Roarrr! Disney has debuted yet another simple teaser poster for Toy Story 3 on MySpace today, this time featuring Rex. The last poster we debuted back in September just had a giant number 3, this one actually has Rex on it. Which means I'm sure we'll see one of these for every main character from the Toy Story world. If you haven't seen it, the Toy Story 1 & 2 Double Feature is still in theaters and has the full-length Toy Story 3 trailer attached in front of it. It's awesome and definitely worth seeing, especially if you're a big Pixar fan (like I am). That trailer will be hitting online in a few weeks, but in the meantime, check out the new poster.
