Paranormal Producers Sell Their Spec Script 'The Jealous One'
Wait a minute, there were producers on Paranormal Activity? If you've seen it, it feels like the kind of film that was created and shot by the director and his two friends and that's it. I totally forgot there were other people actually involved! Producers Steven Schneider and Jason Blum (who also produced Tooth Fairy) are close to selling their spec script titled The Jealous One to Sidney Kimmel Entertainment. The project is described as a Hitchcockian thriller, based on Celia Fremlin's 1985 book, that centers on a wife who dreams she murdered a woman who might be tempting her husband, only to find the woman has disappeared.

Second Full Theatrical Trailer for Roland Emmerich's 2012
One date will unite us all. I'm guessing (or maybe just hoping) that this is the final trailer that Sony will be putting out for Roland Emmerich's 2012. The marketing campaign (at least for the US) is focused entirely around that one apocalyptic scene where an earthquake destroys Los Angeles and sends the entire city sinking into the oean. If you didn't already see the 5-minute extended clip, this trailer contains a condensed version of that very same scene, so you'll see it anyway. And don't you just love apocalyptic destruction and gigantic waves? Because I do. I can't wait to see this. I know the story will suck, but damn it just looks fun!

What Should John Woo Direct Next: Marco Polo or Le Samourai?
I'm admittedly not the biggest fan of Chinese filmmaker John Woo. I've written about my disdain for him many times before, but I'm starting to warm up to him again with every poster and trailer I see for Red Cliff. Earlier this week, Quentin Tarantino revealed that he's got a few projects on his slate to choose from. Much like Tarantino, John Woo has a few projects to choose from as well. Movieline recently interviewed the director (for Red Cliff's US release) and discovered that he's got another ancient epic about Marco Polo in the works as well as a remake of Jean-Pierre Melville's Le Samourai. So which one should he direct next?

Pirates 'On Stranger Tides' Story Origins Finally Cleared Up
There's an interesting story making its way around the web about Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. As was discovered right after the name was announced at the D23 Expo, the title is the same as a book written Tim Powers. Web journalists have been trying to get in touch with Powers to see if that was actually the case. Now via both the LA Times and Empire, the truth has come out, and Powers admits that it was optioned a long time ago and that he just wasn't allowed to say anything until now. In terms of the storyline, well, screenwriter Terry Rossio lays it all out now that the cat's out of the bag.

Marlon Wayans to Replace Eddie Murphy as Richard Pryor?!
I've been looking forward to seeing a Richard Pryor biopic for a long time. And thankfully, Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison and Sony Pictures are still developing a biopic called Richard Pryor: Is it Something I Said with Dreamgirls director Bill Condon still attached to direct. Well, Entertainment Weekly reports today that Eddie Murphy (who was originally attached to star) dropped out over early studio conflicts and that Marlon Wayans has been brought on to replace him in the role of Richard Pryor. Apparently Marlon "fought for the role, blowing the producers away with a 13-min screen test where he transforms into Pryor."

Sony Wants Gary Ross to Write and Direct the Venom Movie
And who exactly is Gary Ross? Ross is a writer, producer, and director, who last directed Seabiscuit and Pleasantville before that. Those aren't exactly two movies that make me think he's overly qualified to bring one of the great supervillains to life, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have some tricks up his sleeves. THR's Heat Vision reports that Ross has been hired to write the Venom spin-off for Sony "as a potential directing vehicle." You might also remember that Ross was hired back in July to write the Spider-Man 4 script. They must really like his take on that and want the Venom movie to feel the same way so they hired him again.

Screenwriter Says The Flash Movie is Still Moving Forward!
Yesterday a report hit the web with quotes from The Dark Knight producer Charles Roven who had said that his rights to an adaptation of The Flash had been reeled in by the newly created DC Entertainment. They are pulling every comic book adaptation back in that isn't ready to go so that they can control the franchises a lot more closely. Roven had said that his version of The Flash really wasn't ready, so most fans thought this meant a Flash movie was dead again or at least not happening for a while. However, screenwriter Dan Mazeau contacted IGN yesterday and gave them a very positive update on the current status of The Flash.

Must Watch: Terry Gilliam's Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus Trailer
Sony Pictures Classics has finally debuted a US trailer for Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus over on Yahoo today. I already saw this wonderful film a few times while in Cannes (read my review) and enjoyed it quite a bit. I think Gilliam is back at his best with this, although I'm not sure if I'd call it one of my favorites. Either way, it's a great movie, with a great cast - not only including Heath Ledger and his three replacements, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell - but the other cast members are fantastic as well. It's a very fantastical film with plenty of very trippy scenes. Watch the new trailer below and enjoy!

Coraline Director Henry Selick Leaves Animation Studio Laika
After working at the Portland, OR-based animation studio Laika for five years, writer/director Henry Selick has decided to leave the studio to work elsewhere. Selick had been looking for another feature to oversee, but with his contract up and no next project in place for him to tackle, he decided to move on. Selick's last stop-animation feature film Coraline wasn't exactly a smash success, but it did earn a respectable $75 million at the US box office. As Anne Thompson said: "It seems odd that when a movie breaks out and does as well as Coraline, that the filmmaker would leave the animation company behind it."

Ryan Reynolds Taking Over for Tom Cruise in Motorcade
Earlier this year, before we knew that he would be starring in Wichita, Tom Cruise had about 7 potential projects lined up. One of them was Motorcade, an action thriller about a disgraced Secret Service agent who happens to be in the wrong place at the right time when the president's motorcade is commandeered by terrorists in New York (it was originally set in Los Angeles). Variety reports that the project is switching actors - Cruise is out, Ryan Reynolds is in - and directors as well. Live Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman is being replaced by Jon Cassar, best known for directing over 50 episodes of Fox's series "24".

National Lampoon is Ready for Yet Another Family Vacation
Why? Because they're the Griswolds! Well, maybe not all of them, but at the very least we'll have one of the Griswold's going on another vacation as THR reports that New Line Cinema is developing a pseudo-sequel to Vacation, the classic 1983 road trip comedy from National Lampoon. But this time Rusty Griswold, son to Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo's Clark and Ellen Griswold from the original film, will embark on a new vacation as the father of his own family. While this isn't the most thrilling news, my hopes are slightly lifted at the mention that David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) will be producing and potentially directing.

Check This Out: Sequels That Bombed Box Office Graphic
I love the graphics that MovieFill makes. We've featured plenty of them before (the $400 Million Club one most recently) and now they've got another one that I've got to share! It's called simply Sequels That Bombed and is inspired by the overwhelming success of The Final Destination, as they say it should've failed miserably (and didn't). So instead, they chart the biggest sequel bombs from 1982 to 2009. "Most of the films we included made under $35 million. A few (Blair Witch 2, Analyze That), made over $35 but were still considered bombs because of the significant drop in sales from their predecessor. Bombs away!"
