Alejandro Jodorowsky Gets Funding for Dream Project 'Abel Cain'

The Sons of El Topo

Chilean filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky is a diverse artist with an eclectic background that includes being a scholar, playwright, composer, actor, comic book writer, historian and psychotherapist. The man is a chameleon. In May it was announced that Jodorowsky was going to work with acclaimed director David Lynch on King Shot which was described as a "metaphysical spaghetti western." Though he hasn't exactly been relevant in contemporary filmmaking over the past two decades, it looks like his work with Lynch has paid off as Quiet Earth reports that he now has the funding needed to make his dream project Abel Cain.

Coen Brothers Talk Casting and Storyline for True Grit Remake

True Grit - Coen Brothers

Just yesterday we tipped you off about the recent talks of Matt Damon and Josh Brolin joining Jeff Bridges in the Coen Brothers remake of the classic 1969 western True Grit that starred John Wayne. After it was announced IGN took it upon themselves to get this info straight from the horse's mouth, and the Coens went even further to offer up some more details on the story and poke a little fun at the entertainment trades (Variety / Hollywood Reporter). On the casting announcements, without hesitation, Joel Coen said: "Yes. Jeff, Matt and Josh, that's true -- something that you read in the trades that actually turns out to be true!"

Must Watch: Official Trailer for Paul Greengrass' Green Zone

Green Zone Trailer

After delaying the release for a few months, Universal has finally debuted the first official trailer for Green Zone, directed by Paul Greengrass and starring Matt Damon, Jason Isaacs, Greg Kinnear, Brendan Gleeson, and Amy Ryan. This is the first we've heard about this project since the first photo arrived last July. And surprisingly it looks a lot better than I was expecting. I guess I should trust in Paul Greengrass - he usually always delivers a solid action film, especially when paired with Matt Damon (hint, hint). Anyway, this trailer has now made Green Zone one of my most anticipated movies to see next March, so be sure to check it out!

Tom Cruise Potentially Reteaming with John Woo for Flying Tigers

Tom Cruise - Top Gun!

John Woo's new World War II film Flying Tigers has been in the works for some time now. The fighter squadron story emerged last December when it was part of a trio of projects that Tom Cruise was circling. Since then John Woo announced that he was making the Christopher McQuarrie and Mason Alley scripted picture his next project, but there's been no further updates. Now that all changes in a packed story from Variety about New Regency's upcoming projects, we almost missed the brief mention that Tom Cruise is attached to Flying Tigers, marking his grand return to the cockpit for the first time since 1986's Top Gun.

More Photos of Russell Crowe in Ridley Scott's Robin Hood!

Russell Crowe as Robin Hood

Photos have been leaking out left and right from the set of Ridley Scott's Robin Hood for quite a while. Some of these photos are old, some of them are new, but all of them look pretty damn cool. Despite most of the film was captured in paparazzi photos, there's still more to see, or so I hope. My favorite shot of Russell Crowe as Robin Hood is to the right just below. It comes from the pages of a recent issue of Entertainment Weekly titled Stars on the Set. Additionally, our friends at The Playlist found a few old photos from Zimbio and a scan of an article on Robin Hood in the latest issue if Empire (via Murphs Place). Read on for more!

Eva Green is Gorgeous on the Poster for Jordan Scott's Cracks

Cracks Poster

Thank you Martin Campbell for introducing me to Eva Green as a Bond girl first! She's an amazingly beautiful person and I would've been begging to see her play a Bond girl if that wasn't her big breakout role anyway. Now you're probably wondering what Cracks is about, just as I was when I first saw this over on Empire. First off, the film is the feature directorial debut of Jordan Scott, who is Ridley Scott's daughter. Let's hope his filmmaking prowess passed on to her, too. Secondly, Cracks is a drama that looks at the lives and relationships among girls at an elite British boarding school. Green plays one of their teachers, Miss G.

Paul Blart Director Steve Carr Hired for the Short Circuit Remake

Steve Carr - Johnny 5

This right here, this is when we know this movie is going to suck. Say what you will, but there's no giving Steve Carr the benefit of the doubt on this one. Besides directing the pile of crap known as Paul Blart: Mall Cop, his other credits include Are We Done Yet?, Rebound, Daddy Day Care, Dr. Dolittle 2, and Next Friday. Sure, the script, written by "Robot Chicken" writer Dan Milano, might not be that bad, but Carr is going to screw it up. This Short Circuit remake is going to go onto his filmography right there along with the others as yet another piece of crap. This finally confirms what we knew all along - this remake will suck!

Hitman's Xavier Gens Set to Direct Action Thriller 'The Fallout'

Xavier Gens

After previously directing Hitman and at one point being rumored to direct the new Conan movie, it looks like French filmmaker Xavier Gens' next project will actually be The Fallout, set to start shooting in February, 2010 in Eastern Europe (via ScreenDaily). The film, being produced and sold by ContentFilm, is set in a post-apocalyptic New York. Story details haven't been officially revealed yet, but it's being called "a thriller that combines elements of Assault on Precinct 13 with Lord of the Flies in a story of survival." From the mind of the guy who brought us Frontier(s), this project sounds like it'll be something very unique.

Bruckheimer & Straczynski Adapting 2K's Shattered Union

Shattered Union

Seems like Jerry Bruckheimer is excited to adapt even more video games. Variety reports that he is set to adapt Shattered Union, published by 2K Games, and has hired screenwriter J. Michael Straczynski to write the script. In the game, states secede from the US and form their own governments that wage a civil war against each other after Washington DC is wiped out in a nuclear blast and chaos ravages the nation. Players control one of the warring group of states, like the California Commonwealth, Republic of Texas and New England Alliance, or a European peacekeeping unit sent to reunify America. Sounds like fun war action.

Watch This: Stunning Samurai Sci-Fi Trailer The Cup of Tears

The Cup of Tears Trailer

I don't exactly know what's going on in this, but I must thank Quiet Earth for finding this beautiful trailer and sending it my way. Tonight I'm featuring the trailer for Gary Shore's The Cup of Tears, a gorgeous CGI hybrid samurai sci-fi movie being made in Ireland. This was shot on the Red camera in Slovenia and is simply referred to as a "visually rich modern fairytale." That's all you really need to know before watching this, just let the visuals take you in from there. It looks kind of like a stunning combination of Sin City, an anime, and Speed Racer, in a way I suppose. Really, I don't know what else to say, so just check this out!

Steve Carell on Par for Rick Reilly Golf Comedy 'Missing Links'

Steve Carell

While I admit that I do still love the curly haired comedic force that is Will Ferrell, his recent foray into nonsensical off-the-wall sports comedies (e.g. Semi-Pro) is beginning to lose its appeal. Thankfully he's moved on and seems to be passing the reins over to Steve Carell, as THR's Risky Biz Blog reports that the actor will star and produce Missing Links, a comedy set in the world of golf about a player angling for a better place to drive his balls. Okay that sounded dirty, but we've all seen 40-Year-Old Virgin so I think we can handle it. Writer Jay Lavender (The Break-Up) adapted the script from a novel by ESPN’s Rick Reilly.

Jason Reitman Calls Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim 'Matrix for Love'

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

This right here is over-hyping at its finest, but I love it, and I'm glad it's spreading like wildfire across the web. While in London to premiere his film Up in the Air, director Jason Reitman met up with director Edgar Wright, who showed him 30 minutes of his new feature Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Its been rather quiet on the Scott Pilgrim font because Wright has finished shooting and is now currently in London working on post-production and editing together the film for release next year. But that didn't stop Reitman from writing some five tweets about what he say, calling it "a game changer for Edgar and the genre." Whoa!
