Katie Holmes Replaces Liv Tyler in Indie Comedy The Romantics
November 2, 2009
by Alex Billington
Somewhat similar to the upcoming comedy Grown Ups, about a bunch of old friends who reunite for the first time in years for a 4th of July weekend, The Romantics is about a group of old friends who reunite for a wedding. Variety reports that Katie Holmes has boarded the independent project in place of Liv Tyler, who was originally attached to play Laura, the maid of honor to Anna Paquin's Lila, the bride. The remainder of the cast includes Anna Paquin, Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman, Elijah Wood, Adam Brody and Jeremy Strong. This is being directed by Galt Niederhoffer, who also wrote the novel and the screenplay.
Production on The Romantics was supposed to start earlier in the summer, but it never did. They will now start shooting later this week in New York City. Holmes has also decided to join as an executive producer, her first time producing anything. It sounds like she was the savior on this project, bringing life to it once again. I'm not sure going the independent route on this one may have been the best idea, but I'm curious to see more from it and will probably catch it at an upcoming festival. Out of the two, I'm a bit more partial to Grown Ups, but that doesn't mean I'll forget about this so quickly. As always, stay tuned for more updates!

Finally she came down from the spaceship, I'd wondered what happened to her. I suppose intergalactic travel isn't as fast as you'd think…
