Mark Millar Announces He Will Be Directing a Superhero Movie

But it's not Superman! Comic book author Mark Millar (of Wanted and Kick-Ass most famously) made a surprise announcement on his forums (via ComingSoon) this morning stating that he'll be directing his own superhero movie sometime in the next few years. Millar explains that "I learned a lot from Kick-Ass and love having the same creative freedom I have with comics when I work in cinema." However he doesn't want to be a "studio bitch" and has decided to independently finance and produce this entire movie on his own. But what exactly will it be an adaptation of? "That's all a secret for now." Maybe it's one of his own comics?
Millar goes on to explain: "The financing is all secured and the movie stands or falls on how good I can make it, doing what Matthew [Vaughn did on Kick-Ass] and just selling it once completed." That worked well for Vaughn because he's an established filmmaker with a good reputation and lots of experience. I like his comics, but I don't know beyond that. Will he be any good? Is there a reason why it's only the "Millers" (either Frank or Mark) that have decided to go from being a prominent and well-known comic book author to movie director? I just hope he's not as bad as Frank Miller. In fact, I hope he's a damn good director!
Millar also confirms in his post that his project is not War Heroes or American Jesus, since both of those are already being adapted, nor is it Wanted 2 or Kick-Ass 2 (as far as we know). Is there anything else that Mark's written that could be a good movie? I'm actually excited to find out. Maybe I'll feel more confident about Millar directing once I see Kick-Ass, which I'm expecting to be (pardon the phrase) quite "kick ass!"

I love him as a comic writer but I'm not sure about him directing. He should direct something like Smallville or something first to show he has the chops. I was pulling for War Heroes, but I guess that is not an option, oh well.

Not excited. He's a one-dimensional writer, I expect the same with a movie. Frank Miller's The Spirit comes to mind.
