Tron Legacy Writers Hired to Write Universal's Ouija Movie
November 2, 2009
by Alex Billington
This may not mean much right now, since we haven't really seen anything from Tron Legacy, but it's good news in Hollywood. Heat Vision reports that Universal has hired screenwriters Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz to write their Ouija adaptation. Before eventually writing the Tron movie, Kitsis and Horowitz were writers and producers on "Lost", which might better explain why they're a good fit for this. The studio is looking at the project as a supernatural action-adventure movie. They also say it's possible that certain rules of the game - never use it alone, never use it in a graveyard, always say good-bye - figure into the plot.
No matter what way I look at it, I can't help but think that this is going to turn out as one big, cheesy mess. Ouija boards are cheesy board games as is, it's only going to get worse being translated to the big screen. The only recent Ouija appearance I liked was in Paranormal Activity, because it wasn't a big catalyst for anything, but it was one of those spooky "holy crap!" moments. If Kitsis and Horowitz can somehow capture the creepiness of that scene in a feature-length script, then I might be interested in this. If not, I already know it's going to be a lame horror movie that leads nowhere. We'll let you know once they find a director.

and if they think they can scare me with one of those boards better than Paranormal, they're crazy. It will flop. for sure.

Hopefully this is scarier then the overhyped Paranormal Activity.
