Chris Pine - The Blade Itself

Chris Pine has been all over the trades after his breakthrough performance in Star Trek with his name being mentioned along with several different projects over the past few months. Now we're getting wind of a project that Pine apparently joined just days before Star Trek even hit theaters as Pajiba says that he is attached to the Ben Affleck scripted crime-drama The Blade Itself based on Marcus Sakey's novel of the same name. Aaron Stockard co-wrote the screenplay with Affleck after first writing the script for the actor's directorial debut Gone Baby Gone back in 2007, but apparently it's not in the cards for Affleck to direct.

Though development has been quiet, Pajiba's inside source says that directors like Steve Zailian and Sam Raimi have been approached to direct, but to no avail. Now the plan is to have the top contender for the job meet with Pine before a helmer is officially hired. The Blade Itself follows childhood friends Evan and Danny as they become a duo of petty thievery until a botched pawn shop robbery sends Evan to prison. While Danny turns over a new leaf, Evan bides his time in prison until his release seven years later when he sets out to bring Danny back into a larcenous lifestyle at the risk of exposing his secret past of theft.

Honestly it's a shame that Affleck isn't taking on directing responsibilities after seeing how he got such an inspired performance out of his younger brother Casey Affleck in Gone Baby Gone. Especially because sooner than later Chris Pine is going to need to stretch his dramatic acting chops, and this sounds like the first movie that's really going to test his acting abilities outside of the action arena. But since none of this is official yet, we'll keep our ear to the ground regarding any more further developments and keep you posted.

you know Ben Affleck is a damn good director, and Chris Pine's a pretty good actor, so I'm for this, let just hope it happens.

As a director, Affleck is ok. As a writer…ehh. It's been rumored for a long time that Damon actually did most of the real work in Good Will Hunting.

Screen Sleuth, you're basing that on what, Family Guy? Damon himself said on Inside the Actors Studio, that he wrote a whole Act for a school project and then he and Affleck expanded it from there into the whole movie.

I think its too early to tell if Affleck will be a great director, but after Gone Baby Gone, I'd say he definitly has talent and I think his future lies behind the camera
