George Clooney Joining Alexander Payne's The Descendants
November 3, 2009
by Ethan Anderton
George Clooney is certainly finishing strong this year with a trio of releases hitting theaters over the next two months. Clooney will next be seen in The Men Who Stare at Goats (opening November 6th) followed by Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox also this month and Up in the Air later in December. But despite his busy schedule promoting these films and shooting the Anton Corbijn directed thriller The American (formerly known as A Very Private Gentlemen) it looks like Clooney is adding yet another role to his roster as Variety says he's in talks to lead Sideways director Alexander Payne's first film in five years, The Descendants.
Actors Nat Faxon and Jim Rash wrote the screenplay based on Kaui Hart Hemming's debut novel of the same name which tells the story of a newly widowed father, also one of the richest men in Oahu, Hawaii, as he takes off with his two rebellious daughters to track down his dead wife's ex-lover on the island of Kauai. Shooting starts on location in Hawaii next in February. With Clooney and Payne collaborating for the first time, this project is shaping up to be more and more promising. It's hard to believe Payne hasn't directed anything since Sideways, so I'm glad to see him return to the director's chair once again. How about you?

As you said above, Clooney has been a very busy guy so this sounds like a kick back project. I mean how could he turn down a few months in Hawaii after the multiple projects of 2009?
