Even More Toys - J.J. Abrams Producing a Micronauts Movie?

What is it with all these robot movies? Earlier this week a story on Robopocalypse being adapted hit, and now there's news today that J.J. Abrams is looking at adapting the Micronauts toys from Japan. The Wall Street Journal (via SHH) is reporting that Abrams is looking to take the miniature toys and turn them into a big movie. He even references how actors always get questioned when they're cast in big roles, but then they turn into big stars, and no one questions them anymore. Apparently he thinks Micronauts is going to be huge as well. I've never heard of them until now, but they sound pretty damn cool, so maybe he's right?
First released in Japan in 1974, the toys (under the original name Microman) were imported to the US by Mego Corp. in 1976. The line consisted of 3.75-inch tall toys, featuring figures, vehicles, and robots, which used a universal, five millimeter inter-connective design. Mego canceled the line in 1980. Then in 2002, Palisades Toys bought the rights to reproduce them and Hasbro announced today that they're bringing back the toy line. Marvel has also published a Micronauts comic, the first issue appearing in 1979. I'm not sure if there's even a good backstory in the Micronauts world, but if J.J. Abrams thinks there's something, I'm in!

I loved micronauts.
I had Galactic Protector, Acroyear, Space Glider, Baron Karza, and some others I can't remember.
Liked the comic too.

the micronaunts didn't they have secret wars 2 x-over back in the 80s early 90s,i don't really think they are film material,i maybe wrong.

#3 if you were a sad old geek like myself and had actually read the Micronauts Comics by Bill Mantlo and Michael Golded you'd know that for at least the first 11 issues it was a great comic and lots of fun, and in the hands of JJ Abrams "Should" be great.

@4. Not so sad! I always wondered why no one had done this yet. Those comics are fantastic. They have long been a cult status title. The characters rock.
This is great news. Filmable? who knows. Who cares. A live action Acroyear or bug would blow me away. JJ Abram is a good director, and no director who decides to take this little known ( at least these days) comic, would do it out of anything but love. This is great…

I used to have the whole toy collection. AND THE marvel comic with Michael Golden! Quality toys. Total pre cursor to the Transformers. You could interlock the toys to make others! I'm sure JJ Abrams probably is about the same age and had these toys growing up. This will shut Transformers down!!!

I want a LONGSHOT movie. 
J.J.Abrams is just producing always the same topics in his movies and tv shows. Time Traveling and other dimensions. Its becoming boring.
But of course we will give Micronauts a chance.
