Casting Tidbits: Gwyneth Paltrow, Martin Lawrence & Many More
November 8, 2009
by Ethan Anderton
Run, Casting Tidbits, run! First up, Variety reports that Gwyneth Paltrow is joining Nicole Kidman in the semi-recently announced project The Danish Girl, an adaptation of David Ebershoff's novel to be directed by Thomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In). The story revolves around a man's transsexual metamorphasis after his wife, a portrait painter, asks him to stand in for an absent female model. Nicole Kidman plays the sex-changing husband Einar Wegener, while Paltrow will portray his wife Greta, who stood by her partner through the sex-change operation, finally letting go when she realized the man she married was gone.
Red Snow
Blood-splattered snow is in sights for Ray Winstone, as THR reports he is set to star in star in stuntman-turned-writer/director Stuart St. Paul's thriller about an ex-SAS officer tracking down his missing daughter in the snow forests of a remote town in northern Canada. The story is based on a true story of a serial killer in Alaska whose killing spree hit the headlines in the 1980's. Hopefully it'll be better than this year's Antarctica-set bomb Whiteout, which as far as I can tell was about villainous snow as well.
Beginners
Variety reports that Goran Visnjic (of NBC's "ER") is joining Ewan McGregor, Melanie Laurent and Christopher Plummer in this indie drama. While production is underway in Los Angeles, with Mike Mills (Thumbsucker) directing from his own script, the logline is being kept under wraps. If we hear anything about the plot, we'll send an update your way, but until then, just assume it's about learning to ride a bike.
Sheneneh and Wanda
Jamie Foxx and Martin Lawrence will strap on some high heels as Variety reports they'll star in a comedy playing female characters they developed during their stand up comedy days. Sheneneh and Wanda are modern day independent women trying to make it on their own, one bank robbery at a time. Foxx will write the script and Lawrence will produce after a strong response to a parody of a movie trailer for a fake film called Skank Robbers. And obviously a feature length film made from a short always sustains itself as we've seen from Saturday Night Live's success with Superstar, It's Pat and The Ladies Man (heavy sarcasm).
That's all for this Monday morning edition of Casting Tidbits! Stay tuned for many more casting updates!

this has prove black actors cant do well without dressing like a woman. Martin Lawrence is a freaking joke, the man still want to cross dress. i heard they going to do Big Momma's House 3 with Martin Lawrence WTF.
Dave Chappelle even said this on Oprah that Hollywood studios like to have black man keep on cross dressing on film.

What about Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Don Cheadle, Samuel L Jackson, Djimon Hounsou, Larry Fishburne, Forest Whitaker. They don't dress in drag to be successful actors. I think it will be funnier if it wasn't a full movie. A sketch comedy of them together would be good, but a feature film? I dont think it will be that good.

You're an idiot.
Whiteout wasn't an instant classic or Oscar material, but it was what it set out to be. An entertaining mystery.

At least Whiteout wasn't another remake.
