Duncan Jones to Direct Source Code Starring Jake Gyllenhaal
November 8, 2009

Most people probably haven't heard of Source Code yet, but everyone should hopefully be familiar with director Duncan Jones (@ManMadeMoon on Twitter), who broke out earlier this year with his sci-fi flick Moon. Variety announces today that Jones is next set to direct a sci-fi thriller called Source Code with Jake Gyllenhaal in negotiations to star as the main character Colter. Mark Gordon (The Messenger, 12 Rounds, 2012) is producing with Vendome Pictures' CEO Philippe Rousselet and Jordan Wynn. Production is slated to begin during the first quarter of next year, making this Jones' very next project instead of Mute.
Source Code centers on a soldier who wakes up in the body of an unknown commuter and is forced to live and relive (over and over) a harrowing terrorist train bombing until he can determine who is responsible for it. I actually read the script a few months back before anyone was attached. The original version was written by Ben Ripley (Species III), but its been revised by Billy Ray (Breach, State of Play). It's a really great script, I loved it, should make for a great feature, especially for Jones to direct and Gyllenhaal to star in. It needs a strong female lead and I personally nominate Kat Dennings, as she fits the main female character perfectly.
For those concerned about Duncan Jones' other project titled Mute, the other Blade Runner-like sci-fi he was developing on his own, he confirmed via Twitter that it is still happening. "For those asking, Mute still in the plans, just slightly delayed. It’s a hard sell.. whereas Source Code came with an offer hard to refuse." Summit Entertainment will distribute Source Code in the US. I've got to say, this is one of those situations where everything came together perfectly and I'm extremely excited because I really couldn't have asked for a better lead actor and a better director for a script I really loved. As always, stay tuned for more updates!

I read the first 20 pages, but just couldn't get into it. Maybe I'll give it another shot.

Greatest script ever. Go to Scriptshadow and grab it before Summit takes it down. I can practically guarantee you they will.

If the script is as good as Script Shadow and Alex say it is, then they couldn't have found a better director than Duncan Jones. Plus, if Source Code is a success, then it will give Jones the cache he needs to make his own projects.
BTW, is there an unspoken game of sci-fi one-upmanship among our younger actors? First Leo joins INCEPTION, then Damon comes out with ADJUSTMENT BUREAU, and now Gyllenhaal has SOURCE CODE?

I don't know what it is about Jake Gyllenhaal, I have no particular reason to not like him, but I'm really getting tired of seeing his face everywhere.
