Man on Wire's James Marsh Will Unveil The Vatican Tapes

British director James Marsh made huge waves with his exhilarating documentary Man on Wire, which is apparently loved by nearly everyone. Now Marsh will jump back to feature films as THR reports he will be helming the supernatual thriller The Vatican Tapes which centers on a series of events that unfold after a tape gets leaked from the Vatican displaying an exorcism that goes wrong. At least they're laying this all out on the table as opposed to The Exorcism of Emily Rose which instead portrayed itself as an Exorcist style horror flick, when it was really just a courtroom drama with unfrightening flashbacks. That's right, I said it.
Chris Borrelli wrote the screenplay based on a story envisioned by himself and Chris Morgan, but no cast is attached yet. This isn't the first time Marsh has directed a non-documentary film, as he directed The King starring Gael Garcia Bernal in 2005. At first it seemed like this had the potential to be another Blair Witch Project / Paranormal Activity kind of project with an exorcism shot first-person and all the crazy demonic activity it would entail. But it looks like the meat and potatoes of this story is what follows the release of the "Vatican Tapes" rather than the tapes themselves. We'll see what Mr. Marsh has in store for us soon enough.

Exorcism of Em Rose was not scary, neither was Paranormal Activity for that matter. True horror gets inside your head, not this bullshit. Hopefully this is at least interesting.

emily rose (while it wasn't scary) wasn't a a bad movie…….
and whether or not "vatican tapes" is scary or not really doesn't bother me here. the description "an exorcism gone wrong" and it's cover-up sound like interesting subject matter.
hey #1…..so what kinds of horror "gets inside your head"? you didn't list any examples of horror films you thought did this and i'm curiious what you would pick.

well most of the time it's more of thriller horror that gets in your head. Psycho, Silence of the Lambs, I even consider American Psycho one. But the basic rule of thumb with a horror movie is to not just play loud music and have things jump out, it's got to do a helluva lot more, sure that will scare the teenage girls in the audience but it should have so much more.

Paranormal Activity never played music, things did not jump out. So what about it did you think made it not scary? It was a suspenseful horror, and always left you searching that one shot of the bedroom for the next thing to happen. I personally think that Paranormal was quite scary, and so did the other 3 people with me.
Would you also consider Night of the Living Dead scary, I wonder? It came out less than a decade after Psycho.
also, the Vatican Tapes sounds like possibly a better version of those Dan Brown book-movies.
