Pete Docter Doing Something New Next, Not Monsters Inc 2

Pixar's Up finally hits DVD and Blu-Ray today (go buy it!) and part of Disney's promotion for the release includes an interview with director Pete Docter found in NY Mag. In that interview, Docter mentions that he's now "mostly focused on the next film that I have in development already." But what could it be? Is it the long-rumored Monsters Inc sequel or something else? "I'm working on something else new, but I cannot announce what it is." Aw, damn, of course! So it sounds like Docter isn't doing Monsters Inc 2, but is already working on Pixar's late-2013 / mid-2014 movie? My mind reels thinking about how far away that is!
He didn't add much else: "That one I just started. We finished Up, I took some time off, spent some time in Europe and Japan doing publicity over there, so I've only been on this for like a couple weeks." We last reported in late July that Disney had registered domain names for Monsters Inc 2, implying that it was in the works. A few months before that, Jim Hill said that he had heard from friends that Disney confirmed it "behind closed doors," but besides those two sketchy updates, we've not heard anything from Disney or Pixar regarding that sequel. Maybe it's still in development but with a different director instead of Docter?
Whatever it is Docter is working on next, I'm already excited for it, because I know it'll be wonderful. I just realized that Up is at #60 on IMDb's Top 250 and it deserves a spot on there. I'm planning on watching it again tonight and reveling in all the brilliance that is the wonderful creative imagination of Pete Docter.

Alex, I don't see how the quote you supplied rules out the possibility that this film is indeed Monsters Inc. 2. Whether it is or it isn't. I'm very excited for whatever Docter and Pixar have in store for us next. Its truly incredible that their films just get better and better.

Alex: You're right, it does. Thanks. That's not the quote you used in your article though; the quote used in your article, "I'm working on something else new, but I cannot announce what it is," does not the rule out the possibility of Monsters Inc 2, hence my comment
