Summit Entertainment Warms Up to 'The Cold Light of Day'

After the surprise success of Liam Neeson's Taken earlier this year, kidnapping is all the rage (at least on film) with different twists and turns to keep the audience on the edge of their seat. Summit Entertainment thinks they have a winner as Variety reports thev've joined with Intrepid Pictures in financing The Cold Light of Day, a Scott Wiper and John Petro script which follows an American whose family is kidnapped while on vacation to Spain, who's left with only hours to find them, uncover a government conspiracy and the connection between their disappearance and his father's secrets. Wow, will he also juggle chainsaws?

The producers are currently seeking a director to shoot the film entirely on location in Spain by early next spring. We'll let you know when they find someone. Summit continues to make great strides in making more high profile projects (like Duncan Jones directing Jake Gyllenhaal in the thriller Source Code) and doesn't seem to have problems getting them all off the ground with all that dirty Twilight money they're raking in. While this concept isn't exactly the most original, neither was Taken, and that turned out to be a delightfully action-packed romp. Personally, I'm hoping for something that really ups the ante a bit. How about you?

what made "taken" great was neeson. just because the movie will have kidnapping in it won't guarantee success.

Agreed with #2. Surely movie executives aren't that stupid that they think people liked Taken because kidnapping was involved. Anyone doing the type of moves that Neeson did in that movie would have my viewership. I don't care if it was about an autistic ninja who never leaves the dojo and waves of totally random also autistic kids come to challenge his throne. right on 4 and 2. Neeson being a total bad-ass is what made Taken great. Think about the script/plot, there was nothing really great or unique about it, but acting and directing was perfect and that's why it was great.

I believe if Neeson wasn't in Taken it would have failed, he's the only thing that kept the movie together.

As for this it doesn't sound bad.
