Watch This: Real Trailer for Mid-Air Monster Movie Altitude
November 13, 2009
Source: ShockTillYouDrop
by Alex Billington
If you can remember back to April, we featured a poster and promo trailer for an indie film called Altitude, about a small plane full of teenagers that encounters a Lovecraftian creature up in some storm clouds. As we quickly found out, that promo trailer didn't actually have any real footage in it, so all the bad acting and CGI was actually bad because it was only temp footage. Now that it's actually shot and in post-production, we now have a finished trailer to show you (via ShockTillYouDrop) that includes real footage this time, and it's a huge improvement. Plus the final shot at the end with the monster is a true "holy sh*t" shot. Check it out!
Watch the first real trailer for Kaare Andrews' Altitude:
After a malfunction sends their small plane climbing out of control, a rookie pilot (Jessica Lowndes) and her four teenage friends find themselves in a showdown with malevolent, supernatural forces in the sky.
Altitude is directed by Canadian filmmaker Kaare Andrews, who is making his feature debut after directing a handful of shorts previously. The script was written by Paul A. Birkett, of Escape Velocity, Mindstorm, and Crash Landing previously. The film is being developed by the Escape Factory and distributed in Canada by Alliance Films, but they don't have a US distributor yet. Stay tuned for updates on Altitude as they arrive.

So you go ahead of spoil the last shot of the trailer?
Other than that, this doesn't look too bad.

Well technically you didn't spoil it, but still.

Jesus, stop bitching.
I swear First Showing is littered with the most whiney, complaining, little turds on the internet.
"OMG! You spoiled a two minute long trailer for a movie by telling me they show a monster at the end of a trailer for a MONSTER MOVIE. Otherwise I would have never have guessed it."
Hey guys, you want to hear something crazy? In the trailer for Batman 3, whenever it comes out, there will be the inevitable shot of the villain! Notice that I'm not describing the villain, I'm just telling you they'll show him. Isn't that friggin' insane?
Oh, spoilers. Sorry.
Get over it buckos.

Still looks pretty terrible (and some of the footage is the same as was in the first trailer), but it's a slight improvement.

I agree with #7.
The movie looks pretty alright. I'll check it out.

haha, I already now what this movie is about, it's pretty obvious…Im just guessing, but this is how it goes:
There is no REAL monster, it's the imagination of those kids, expecially the one with the comic book, he starts with the freaky idea and everyone follows because of the fear they have. Fear can do a lot of crazy stuff…Its just like The Descent, but up in the air.

Probably gonna end like they're in some sort of flight simulator in a hanger where scientists are experimenting with fear. It's almost as if the text during the trailer alludes to that.

Pretty much everything #7 said people on this site will complain about literally any little fucking thing they see…O yeah and jump on Alex whenever possible.
But my worst fear of all time is seeing Cthulu, literally like I freeze up when I see something with teeth and tentacles…and that last shot just creeped up my spine like a motherfucker.
Call me a pussy but Ill go see this just to confront my worst fear.

Wow. I respect the quality for a film with a low budget. But you would think the acting could have been a little stronger to say the least.
"I'm the pilot, and what i say goes!" - That was weak for my taste.

Dude….what's Cthulhu doing up in the air? This just issnt believable……

Are these kids flying throughout the whole movie?
Sebastiaan Vos on Nov 13, 2009
21
hmm, I gonna assume that this will be more of a psychologial thriller, and I'm gonna go out on a limb, and say the kid who is afraid to fly is the one who manifests the creature. I could be wrong though.

this almost looks like it could be like the movie sphere. where the the fears of the people are manifested into reality. cause it looks like the stuff if happening like in the comic that the kid is holding.
mariah heinlen on Nov 13, 2009
28
ok ok… there is no way the monsters are real, hell i wouldn't be a surprised if its just a dream.
But if the monsters do happen to be real… they better not survive because I've seen plains go down because of birds… and if a fucking bird the size of my head could take out a plain just think of how easy it would be for that monster.
looks dumb

So….is that what happened in the sky when Rasputin opened the gateway so Hellboy could fulfill his destiny? Freakasaurus, man…
Frank N. Stein on Nov 13, 2009

so the monster is a cross between 'the flying spaghetti monster' and Andross from starfox 64?

I agree with #7. Too many whiners.
That was kind of… confusing and interesting. I probably won't watch it, nonetheless.

Umm… how about maybe landing the plane? That might solve their little problem. Although, I guess the whole gauge spinning thing is supposed to imply that their stuck in some kind of inescapable air-squid-inhabited weather system, which… yeah, doesn't make this movie sound any better.

Crazy Cthulhu like thing terrorizing stupid teenagers in a plane? I think I would check this out.

Curse you for ruining it, #7!

being done in a small plane is a unique concept. it looks like it could be pretty good. i don't think the creature is being created by the fear of flying the one guy has……….that came across as too obvious……….i'll be watching.

that steaming piece of manure Cloverfield wanted to be this good…at least it has some actual thrills in it…

It's something different .
Wussupman on Nov 13, 2009

It's weird that this is so typical and tired and yet has some fresh elements. It can't be as good as Cloverfield, but if it was on the $4 matinee and I had nothing else to do, I'd go see it. As it is, I'll probably look into it when it's on DVD.
Am I the only one whose trailer showed up as extremely low-res and cropped? Maybe it's my screen.
FekketCantenel on Nov 13, 2009

Added: I clicked through to ShockTillYouDrop and their version of the trailer was much better and displayed properly. If anyone has a similar problem, try that.

Y'know, the actual trailer aside, is anyone else surprised there has never been a TRUE lovecraftian apocalypse movie? I mean, it's referenced ALL THE TIME, in all kinds of other movies and media, but to my knowledge their isn't a SINGLE Hollywood movie that's directly about Cthulu or a Lovecraftain type end of the world. Some people thought that was what Cloverfield was going to be, but obviously it wasn't. You'd think that would have happened by now.
DRM on Nov 13, 2009
43
@DRM exactly. I wish someone would do a Lovecraft tale ala Cthulu etc. That would be awesome if it was done right. I hope after the Hobbit del Toro takes on At the Mountains of Madness.
This movie looks like a teenybop rehash ala the fog/the myst in an airplane.

I love crappy B movies and I'll wait to see it on SyFy (why they changed it from sci-fi was just stupid and everytime i see it spelled the new way irritates me). It has all the ingredients for a popcorn eatin', laugh at the bad acting good time.

It's just like Deep Rising but in the air. I can't imagine too much happening that satisfies the plot more than takes up time. Looks interesting though, I would certainly watch it but don't know if I would spend money to see it.
Nuika on Nov 14, 2009

I love how when anyone sees the name Lovecraft, they automatically jump to Cthulhu. there ARE other Lovecraft creatures you know. This goes to all the people saying "Cthulhu can't be in the sky, bitch bitch complain bitch." Hint: IT MIGHT NOT BE CTHULHU.
Steph on Nov 14, 2009
50
Totally hear ya #42…Ive always thought that Cthulu would be the ultimate monster movie. Imagine like a cthulu/mountains of madness mix, group of scientist discover the lost city and awaken cthulu or something. So much freaky ass potential in Lovecraft when it comes to hollywood. Be cool if someone like Peter Jackson tried at it.

53
WTF? Okay this is coming from one of the people that saw the "promo trailer" that was was removed from firstshowing just as soon as it was posted, this was just as bad a trailer as that first one imo. Maybe not as terrible if memory serves, but still, this one was really bad, not a good improvement. Perhaps if it was higher quality or the trailer was cut better, but as it stands this looks like it's direct-to-DVD?
