Tommy Lee Jones Leaves Lakeshore's Lincoln Lawyer Project
November 23, 2009
by Alex Billington
I always hate reporting this kind of news, especially when there isn't a replacement director yet. It all just feels so hopeless. Last month we reported that Tommy Lee Jones would be directing and co-starring in The Lincoln Lawyer, a legal thriller based on Michael Connolly's 2005 novel. However, Variety reports tonight that Jones has left the project "over creative differences on the script." John Romano (Intolerable Cruelty, Nights in Rodanthe) wrote the script, that Lakeshore will hold onto until they can get another director attached, hopefully in time to shoot this next spring. I don't think Jones will be co-starring either.
The story in The Lincoln Lawyer follows "Mickey Haller, a wheeler-dealer Los Angeles lawyer who operates out of the back of his Lincoln." Haller is fine with defending garden-variety criminals until he lands the case of a lifetime: defending a Beverly Hills playboy accused of murder. Matthew McConaughey was (and still is) attached to play Haller. Other than that, there wasn't anyone else attached (that we knew of) and this was still in the early stages. Jones does have plenty of other work, directing an HBO movie and starring in The Company Men with Ben Affleck and Kevin Costner as well. We'll let you know who they replace him with.
