The Crazies Goes Viral - Save Ogden Marsh from Toxic Waste

We haven't really seen a good viral kick off in a while, so this is kind of exciting to see another one start up. There's nothing going on with Tron Legacy viral at the moment and with District 9 almost out on DVD, that one has wrapped up as well. Thanks to our friends at MovieViral though, we've got a lot of new details on the viral for The Crazies remake. A few people I know are very excited for this movie primarily based on the first trailer that hit in October, but if you love viral marketing, you might want to check this out as well. The central site this time is the Save Ogden Marsh blog and Twitter account that have revealed more websites.
The Crazies is a horror film about a town (Ogden Marsh, Iowa) whose water supply gets contaminated by a "mysterious toxin" that causes the people living there to go insane and start killing other people. If you've seen the trailer (or the original George Romero movie that this is a remake of) then you know what it's all about. And it's that concept that is the basis of this new viral or ARG (alternate reality game). The toxin is apparently coming from the nearby chemical company Dakon/Pendrill Chemicals - dpchemicals.com.
Similar to the District 9 viral (which had a blog written by an alien and MNU company sites trying to cover up what the alien was saying), The Crazies viral has elements for both sides of the story. A woman named Kimberly Jonson is the one who is running the Twitter and Save Ogden Marsh blog in hopes of saving her town and its environment that's being destroyed by these chemicals. In addition to those websites, there's the Dakon/Pendrill Chemicals company site which has a password protected login for employees, like we've seen in other virals. We're guessing there's a lot more information hidden on that website behind that login.
This is all just an early start for The Crazies viral, as the film isn't even due out until February 26th. But you might as well start following the blog and Twitter just in case she starts talking about even more sites and/or reveals some information that could lead to finding out a password to login to that chemicals site. There are probably corporate documents in there talking about this toxin, which isn't that exciting or groundbreaking in the viral world, but it's still cool to see.
