Summit Entertainment Warms Up to 'The Cold Light of Day'
After the surprise success of Liam Neeson's Taken earlier this year, kidnapping is all the rage (at least on film) with different twists and turns to keep the audience on the edge of their seat. Summit Entertainment thinks they have a winner as Variety reports thev've joined with Intrepid Pictures in financing The Cold Light of Day, a Scott Wiper and John Petro script which follows an American whose family is kidnapped while on vacation to Spain, who's left with only hours to find them, uncover a government conspiracy and the connection between their disappearance and his father's secrets. Wow, will he also juggle chainsaws?

'My Name Is Memory' Three-Book Series Sparks a Bidding War
When a bidding war breaks out for an as yet unpublished series of books, it's a safe bet that the story has some serious drawing power. But in this case, I'm not thrilled about the purchase in question as Variety reports New Regency and Peter Chernin have just made another big acquisition in a bidding war for My Name Is Memory, the first of a three-book series written by Ann Brashares which follows the meeting of a college couple who come to the realization that their souls have been reincarnated over hundreds of years, but that these soulmates keep losing each other. But wait, it's even more complicated than that. Read on!

Must Watch: First Glorious Clash of the Titans Teaser Trailer!
Warner Bros has debuted the official trailer for Louis Leterrier's Clash of the Titans remake starring Sam Worthington, Gemma Arterton, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Pete Postlethwaite, and plenty of other great actors. This is a very short teaser trailer, but it really packs a punch. No wait, scratch that, this packs more that a frickin' punch, damn! It looks so epic and awesome. Sure, they've gone CGI and aren't using classic Ray Harryhausen effects, but it still looks good. This is exactly what I wanted the Clash of the Titans remake to look and feel like. And I dig that rock song, too, it fits perfectly. Without further ado, watch this now!

Kathleen Kennedy & Frank Marshall Remaking Fathers and Guns
This sounds like one of those terribly unfunny Hollywood comedies like Daddy Day Camp or Old Dogs. But knowing that producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall (of Indiana Jones) are behind this, I actually think it might be good. THR announces that Kennedy and Marshall are remaking Fathers and Guns, a French-Canadian film that beat out Bruno at the box office when it was released in Quebec this year. The film is an action-comedy about two cops, father and son, who can't stand each other. They are assigned to an investigation to infiltrate an outdoor adventure group-therapy camp for fathers and sons.

New Extended TV Trailer for Jason Reitman's Up in the Air
Paramount played this new extended TV trailer for Jason Reitman's Up in the Air during the "Mad Men" season finale yesterday, so you might've already seen it, but if not, here's your chance. It's a short 'n sweet new trailer with most of the footage we've seen before in either of the first two trailers. But since Up in the Air deserves some more love and since this trailer has great quotes from various critics, it's worth featuring anyway. I hope everyone is planning to see this when it hits theaters in December, it's easily one of the best films of the year. And if all goes well, it might end up winning some Oscars, too. Anyway, check it out!

Francis Lawrence Taking DC Comics' Sgt. Rock Into the Future
A movie based on DC Comics' WWII hero Sgt. Rock has been stuck in development hell for quite some time and last we heard was Guy Ritchie might be at the helm until he became attached to Lobo. But that was over a year and a half ago, and THR's Heat Vision now says that Francis Lawrence (who last directed I Am Legend) is attached to direct a script from newcomer Chad St. John with super-producers Joel Silver and Akiva Goldsman guiding the project for Warner Bros. However, Sgt. Rock will be lifted from the period fight in World War II into the future to avoid feeling dated and out of tune with contemporary issues.

The Weekly Moviegoer - What Do You Do When the Movie is Over?
What do you do when the movie is over? The last scene has played, the credits have begun, the lights have come up, maybe you clapped, maybe you read the credit scroll to the end, you exit the auditorium and then... Because you are reading a movie blog, I presume you like to discuss movies, but where do you go for the discussion, and how long does it last?
Despite the fact that I write about movies, I feel like I don't talk enough about a movie -- immediately and with real people -- after seeing it in the theater. Sometimes a friend and I will exchange a few words about

First Look: First Photo from Eli Roth's Exorcism Film Cotton
If you love horror, then you've got to check this out. Bloody-Disgusting got their hands on the first photo from the Eli Roth produced exorcism movie Cotton. We first featured a sales poster for this from Cannes back in May, but haven't heard much since. BD explains that it's "a Cloverfield-inspired exorcism movie" about an evangelical minister who turns against religion and decides to participate in a documentary in which he practices his last exorcism. Some photos have been floating around already, but this one is just crazy! At first I thought she was impaled on some spikes, but it's just the possessed girl bent backwards.

Len Wiseman Taking on Apocalyptic Mystery Film 'Nocturne'
What if you survived the end of the world, but you had no idea how it all happened? 20th Century Fox will be taking this interesting concept to the big screen as THR reports that director Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard) will be at the helm of Nocturne, a story about a group of people who survive the end of the world and the mystery surrounding how they got to that position. Funnily enough, Fox doesn't even know how they got to that position because the studio is still in the process of hiring writers. Despite the lack of direction, this high concept seems like an apocalyptic Memento, and that sounds like all sorts of good fun.

Mad Men Creator Matthew Weiner's First Feature Film Delayed
Matthew Weiner (creator of AMC's "Mad Men") has made no secret of his desire to jump from television to feature films. Back when he was still working on "The Sopranos" for HBO, he wrote a script for a romantic comedy entitled You Are Here. Weiner quickly found independent financing and a more than decent start to a cast with Jennifer Aniston, Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis all attached. But it looks like he'll have to wait a few years as Variety reports issues with the timetable for production on "Mad Men's" fourth season has forced a postponement of the project, with a hope of starting it back up sometime in 2011.

Eastwood's Hereafter is About the '04 Tsunami and Dead People!
Yep, you read that headline right! Last night, a story hit Variety reporting that Belgian actress Cecile de France had joined the cast of Clint Eastwood's new film Hereafter, which (in previous articles) has been described as a supernatural thriller, without any major plot details beyond that. Reading on, I noticed that they said it had already been shooting for a month, which is quite amazing considering Clint just finished Invictus, which hits theaters in December and potentially could win Best Picture. Damn he is a workhorse! But then I started to think back to some details about Hereafter that I'd heard in various places recently.

Pete Docter Doing Something New Next, Not Monsters Inc 2
Pixar's Up finally hits DVD and Blu-Ray today (go buy it!) and part of Disney's promotion for the release includes an interview with director Pete Docter found in NY Mag. In that interview, Docter mentions that he's now "mostly focused on the next film that I have in development already." But what could it be? Is it the long-rumored Monsters Inc sequel or something else? "I'm working on something else new, but I cannot announce what it is." Aw, damn, of course! So it sounds like Docter isn't doing Monsters Inc 2, but is already working on Pixar's late-2013 / mid-2014 movie? My mind reels thinking about how far away that is!
