Rumor: Black Cat as Spider-Man 4 Villain and a New Female Lead?
We're going to pump the brakes after that headline because there's a lot of rumor manure to sift through. Earlier today Mania reported a big rumor that Black Cat would be the new villain in Spider-Man 4, and that Rachel McAdams (of The Notebook and Wedding Crashers fame) was the frontrunner for the role. However, this seemed to be just another in a long line of ridiculous villain rumors, but then our friends at SlashFilm found a post in The Observer regarding actress/columnist Romola Garai, who revealed she had an audition for a role in Spider-Man 4. But is she auditioning for Black Cat or a supposed new female lead?

Two Badass Posters for Pierre Morel's From Paris with Love
I don't want to keep using the word "badass" to describe everything from Pierre Morel's new movie From Paris with Love, but there is no better word to use! This is his follow-up to Taken that is already ready to go and being released next February. We've seen one poster already and a badass trailer (there's that damn word again) and now we have two more official posters thanks to Crave Online. I wasn't sure if these would be cool, but I really love the design. I love the slanted lettering and the pose they use and the blood splatter, everything about them. I have been continually impressed by their marketing for this, bravo Lionsgate!

Guillermo del Toro Says He'll Appear in The Hobbit as a Creature
Although we just ran a big update from Guillermo del Toro on all things The Hobbit last week, we have yet another interesting, and pretty damn cool, update to feature today. Over on The One Ring forums (via SlashFilm), someone translated an interview with del Toro where he said: "In The Hobbit I will play a small monster. I will transform myself in a small creature, not an important monster, just a 'background' type." Awesome! Does this mean Peter Jackson will reprise his role as a pirate as well? Who knows. Del Toro also went on to explain exactly what he's doing with the creature (so it doesn't get all blown out of proportion).

The Mad Hatter Needs Your Help, Follow Him for Treasure!
I'm really digging the social/viral marketing Disney is doing for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. When the first trailer debuted in July, they used Facebook to build lots of early buzz. Now they're using Facebook again to debut another new series of posters (as far as we know). The Mad Hatter has posted a message on his fan page saying that if he gets 7500 "likes" on that message, he'll give us more "treasure." The first poster, seen below, reveals a good look at all the Alice in Wonderland characters, including the caterpillar (as it was leaked earlier this week). But of course, we're waiting for the full high res version!

Composer Paul Haslinger Replacing Danny Elfman on Wolfman
Today Cinemusic, which follows everything regarding film soundtracks and scores, nabbed a disappointing scoop that composer Danny Elfman (Batman, Spider-Man, Milk) will no longer be composing the score for Joe Johnston's The Wolfman, and he will be replaced by Paul Haslinger (Death Race, Prom Night, Crank). While Cinemusic cites scheduling conflicts and even a rumor of problems with the film, our own inside source told us that not only has Elfman composed a finished score already, but that he's done at least a few different versions and that the studio doesn't like his score and wants to use another one instead.

Amy Heckerling Taking on a Romantic Comedy with Vampires
With all the complaining and frustration I've expressed with adaptations and remakes in recent news, I'm even more disgusted by anymore projects dealing with vampires. However, a part of me is curious about ScreenDaily's recent announcement that Amy Heckerling (of Clueless) is working on a romantic comedy with vampires aptly titled Vamps, a story that focuses on two young female vampires living the good life in New York until love enters the picture and each has to make a choice that will jeopardize their immortality. As long as the vampires aren't glittering, emo-hipster sissies, then we should be good to go on this one.

Will Smith Interested in Picking Up Some Flowers for Algernon?
We've seen Will Smith fight aggressive aliens, infectious bloodthirsty humans, and self-righteous robots, but when all is said and done, it's really awe inspiring to see him put away the guns and "Aw, hell no!" attitude when he buckles down for a serious drama. So it pleases me to see that Pajiba has a scoop about Will Smith taking on the lead role (as well as producing) a contemporary adaptation of the Daniel Keyes' short story and subsequent novel Flowers for Algernon, the story of Charlie, a mentally challenged man, who is the first human test subject for an experimental surgery that artificially increases intelligence.

Watch This: Extended Family-Focused TV Spot for Avatar
"Where wonder lives, and adventure rules!" You have got to see this crazy new TV spot! Fox put together a more family friendly TV spot for James Cameron's Avatar that sells it much more like Star Wars or an animated space adventure for kids (or something like that). At first I thought this was kind of cheesy, but actually, it's kinda fun to see. So far all the marketing for Avatar has been very epic and focused towards the Cameron fanboys, but I love seeing a whole different side of Pandora this time. I doubt it'll convert anyone, except for kids and their parents, but still. I just hope this is truly the "greatest adventure of all-time!"

First Look: New Official Photos from Alexandre Aja's Piranha 3-D
Now this is starting to look good. Dread Central has a few of the first official photos from Alexandre Aja's Piranha 3-D that they nabbed while at the AFM. There aren't any shots of any piranha's yet (awww!), but there are some cool shots of bloody lake, some bikini-clad girls, and Richard frickin' Dreyfuss (fuck yes!). Hell, I'd go watch this movie right now based off of these photos, but I'm sure there is plenty more madness to come, especially once they finish all the visual effects work making those piranha's come to life! Anyway, check these out. We don't know when we'll see a trailer, but these should hold you over for the time being.

Interview: The Box Director Richard Kelly, Part 2: Spoilers
Just last week I interviewed Richard Kelly, director of Donnie Darko and the recently released The Box. The first half of my interview was strictly spoiler free and we talked about developing the story, his love for sci-fi, and casting. This second part of my interview (run time of 7 minutes) focuses on the second half of the movie and contains spoilers, so please watch this only if you've seen the movie! He talks about why some of the characters make the decisions they make and what's going on in the second half. If you had questions after watching The Box or just wanted to know more about what went into it, then be sure to watch this.

Brazilian Director Heitor Dhalia Attached to Direct April 23
I think I'm one of the few people who actually knows who Heitor Dhalia is, but I'm going to make sure everyone is familiar with him soon enough. Dhalia is a Brazilian director with three features under his belt, the latest of which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival (where I saw it). I knew nothing about him before seeing Adrift, but walked out of it amazed, it's such a beautiful film (read my review). Anyway, Variety says Lakeshore has hired Dhalia to direct their espionage thriller April 23, based on Erje Ayden's book "Sadness at Leaving: An Espionage Romance" that's being adapted by Hanna Weg (The Beautiful and the Damned).

Winona Ryder & Vincent Cassel Cast in Aronofsky's Black Swan
Some casting news for Darren Aronofsky's next project. SlashFilm has announced that Vincent Cassel, Winona Ryder, and Barbara Hershey have all joined the cast of Black Swan. We already know that the film stars Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis as rival ballet dancers at a dance school. Ryder plays Beth, who is a friend of Portman's character and the lead in all of the school's productions. She's nearing the end of her career, so all of other dancers are aiming to take her place as Odette, the Swan Queen, in the next big ballet: Swan Lake. Cassel will play the handsome but sinister Yevna, director of the new stage production.
