Ryan Reynolds Talks About His Excitement for Green Lantern

Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern

Its been roughly four months since we learned that Ryan Reynolds would be playing Hal Jordan in the Martin Campbell directed Green Lantern movie. Campbell is currently in pre-production in hopes of shooting sometime early next year. So obviously Reynolds has been getting ready to play Hal Jordan, even doing costume fittings. And in a recent MTV interview, Reynolds opens up about how excited he is. "I think, seeing the prototypes for the Green Lantern costumes was a huge moment. It was a moment when I was like, 'This is happening, and it's happening in the right way.' That's a pretty cool, definitive moment for me."

Sound Off: James McTeigue's Ninja Assassin - Your Thoughts?

Ninja Assassin

Now that you've seen it, what did you think? Its been 4 years since former Matrix assistant director James McTeigue brought us V for Vendetta, and now he's back with a new movie called Ninja Assassin. Considering it's a movie about ninjas starring Korean pop star turned actor Rain, that means it should be pretty awesome right? But all the reviews have been mixed so far. Is the story as bad as they say it is? Is the action at least awesome to watch? Does Rain kick as much ass as everyone says he does? If you've had the chance to see it, then sound off, leave a comment, and let us know what you thought of Ninja Assassin!

JCVD's Mabrouk El Mechri Directing Jessica Alba in Insiders

Jessica Alba / Insiders

Even more comic book movies for Jessica Alba? Apparently so. Pajiba says that they've learned Alba will star in an adaptation of Insiders, a series of Belgian graphic novels published by Dargaud. Apparently Alba herself put up the money to buy the rights with a little help from her friend Robert Rodriguez, who will be producing this as well. Additionally, they report that French-Algerian filmmaker Mabrouk El Mechri, who broke out in a big way directing the Jean Claude Van Damme drama JCVD last year, is now attached to direct this project. No start date is set (as far as we know), but it sounds like it's ready to start shooting.

First Photo from Shrek Forever After and a Storyline Update

Shrek Forever After

That photo you see above is the "very first" official photo from DreamWorks Animation's Shrek Forever After. USA Today has a new first look article today debuting the photo as well as some new information on the franchise. Let's get the most important news out of the way first. Shrek Forever After is, sadly, the final film in the Shrek franchise (although I'm sure it'll still continue with straight-to-DVD spin-offs and sequels). "All that was loved about Shrek in the first film is brought to the final film," promises Bill Damaschke, head of creative production at DreamWorks. And as for the story, here's the new description from USA Today.

Neve Campbell Says Wes Craven Will Be Returning for Scream 4

Wes Craven

These days franchises are getting rebooted and remade left and right, but for one particular popular horror franchise, it's going to pick up right where it left off. We've known about a Scream 4 (and a potential new trilogy) for quite some time now (hell, there's even a teaser poster out there despite still having no script out to actors), as well as the return of franchise veterans Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette, and writer Kevin Williamson. In a new interview with Campbell on Black Book (via SlashFilm), she reveals that director Wes Craven is pretty much attached to revisit the Ghostface Killer in this fourthcoming sequel.

Stephen King Has Been Working on a Sequel to The Shining?

The Shining

This isn't exactly news, but it's quite an earth shattering thought that could end up shaking cinema to the core. Recently The Torontoist attended an event where author Stephen King treated fans to a 15-minute reading from the author’s new novel, Under the Dome, as well as a candid interview chock full of stories passed in an on-stage interview with Eastern Promises director David Cronenberg. In this interview, King shocked fans when he began casually describing an idea for a new novel only to slowly reveal that it was his concept for a sequel to The Shining, the original novel that spawned Stanley Kubrick's classic horror film.

Denzel Washington's Glamour Shot on The Book of Eli Poster

The Book of Eli Poster

Warner Bros has debuted the official poster for The Book of Eli on MySpace tonight. Just in case you couldn't tell from the poster, this stars Denzel Washington as well as Mila Kunis, Gary Oldman, Michael Gambon, Ray Stevenson, Malcolm McDowell, and Tom Waits. Usually when an actor uses his face for the entire poster, it's for a comedy or some drama no one cares about. However, this poster is actually pretty awesome, just because it's a gritty Denzel Washington looking off into the distance with some badass shades. What more could you ask for? And my next question is if we'll get one of these for Oldman, too?

Brandon's Word: John Hillcoat's The Road is a Harrowing Triumph

The Road Review

I was so afraid to walk into the theatre to see The Road; I was afraid John Hillcoat's and Joe Penhall's adaptation of one of my favorite books would fall short of Cormac McCarthy's sublime, unflinching novel. I was afraid this big-screen version would tarnish the subtle landscape, the sparse construction, the hope and hopelessness that exists in such a perfect balance within the novel. But it didn't. It doesn't. The Road enhances its forebear. The film uses the novel as scaffolding, support around which to construct something admirably similar, but wholly unique. They're different mediums, books and movies, and should thusly be

James McAvoy in Michael Hoffman's The Last Station Trailer

The Last Station Trailer

Sony Pictures Classics has finally debuted a trailer for Michael Hoffman's The Last Station, an indie biopic about Russian author Leo Tolstoy. Christopher Plummer stars as Tolstoy and is joined by an all-star cast including James McAvoy as Valentin Bulgakov, Paul Giamatti as Vladimir Chertkov, and Helen Mirren as Sofya Tolstoy. While Plummer should be the central focus, I believe this film centers more on McAvoy, who plays Tolstoy's private secretary. But that said, this looks extraordinary and everyone in the cast looks phenomenal. I'm a bit sad I never got to see this at a festival, but I'll try and see it in theaters next month.

First Look: Adrien Brody as a Crazy Drug Dealer in High School

Adrien Brody in High School

Oh hell yes, you've got to see this! John Stalberg's High School is about a high school valedictorian who accidentally smokes weed with the local stoner and finds himself the subject of a drug test. So how does he get out of it? He gets the entire school high so that he can get "his entire graduating class to face the same fate, and fail." The cast includes Colin Hanks (who I think is playing the valedictorian) as well as Andrew Wilson, Michael Chiklis, and even Yeardley Smith. But best of all, Adrien Brody plays a tattooed drug dealer named Psycho Ed. And he's looks frickin' crazy! Thanks to Quiet Earth we've got a few new photos.

Sony is Very Interested in a Zombieland Sequel, But in 3-D!

Zombieland

After Zombieland came on the scene last month, there was no doubt that its director, Ruben Fleischer, was going to become very busy, very quickly. And despite some other very lucrative offers, today Moviehole reports that Sony is quite interested in a follow-up sequel to the darkly hilarious undead comedy. Fleischer told them not only is Sony extremely interested, but it sounds like the project will be given the digital 3-D treatment, and we'll see Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin back again on the big screen sometime soon, splattering zombie blood and body parts right in our bespectacled faces.

Must See: Awesome Interactive Trailer Application for Avatar

Avatar

This is actually pretty damn cool. Fox has launched an interactive trailer for James Cameron's Avatar using some impressive new technology. The "trailer" is a desktop application which you must install that runs using Adobe Air. Head over to avatarmovie.com/air to download it. Not only does it feature the trailer we've all seen before, but it has over 10 new featurettes that pop up at various points in the trailer while you're watching. Sort of like the special features on a Blu-Ray but all before the movie even comes out. Fox is doing some heavy last-minute pushing on Avatar and this is one of the coolest things they've done.
