Point Break Writer Peter Iliff Penning American Gladiators Movie

After the American Gladiators made a huge television comeback on NBC with all new events and red, white and blue clad, muscle-bulging athletes, the next logical step was to somehow adapt it into a feature length motion picture as we reported earlier this year. Now it looks like the project is making some headway as Variety reports screenwriter Peter Iliff, (Point Break, Patriot Games) will write the film based on the television show which first premiered in the late 80's, however the story will see the titular characters as superheroes instead. Just when I thought Hollywood had run the well dry, here comes a drought. Read on!

Idris Elba Joins the Cast of Kenneth Branagh's Thor as Heimdall

So it looks like Marvel plans to continue to drop hints about what to expect storywise in the Thor movie by announcing more casting and giving us a taste of who the most important characters are. THR's Heat Vision reports today that Idris Elba has joined the cast of Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of Thor. Elba will play Heimdall, the guardian of the mythical world of Asgard, who stands on the BiFrost Bridge ready to defend the city from intruders. Boy does he look like a badass guardian. But does this mean Asgard going to be attacked at some point in the movie? Is that the hint Marvel is dropping here? Any more revelations?

Watch This: New Avatar Featurette on the Human Hardware

I'm trying to slow down on our Avatar posts so as to not overload everyone with new footage, but this time I just can't help myself. IGN UK debuted a new featurette for James Cameron's Avatar today titled Human Hardware. It's actually a very impressive featurette looking at the design and development (and usage) of the various "hardware" that the humans use - as in, the badass mech AMP units (seen above), helicopters, gunships, and so on. My hope is that everyone gets more and more excited the more they see from Avatar, whether it be posters or more featurettes. And there's lots of new footage and plenty to see in this, so enjoy!

Marvel Updates from Twitter - Iron Man 2 Trailer, Thor Buzz!

Within the last year, Twitter has become a huge source for updates and a valuable resource for keeping in touch with filmmakers. We've written about plenty of scoops and reports from Twitter before, but today we've got a few updates to highlight, all pertaining to Marvel movies in the works. First off, Jon Favreau tweeted a reply last night to a user confirming that the Iron Man 2 trailer would be attached to Sherlock Holmes, meaning it would debut on Christmas Day. That's almost exciting enough already. Additionally, though, some Marvel guys were chatting about a meeting they had for Kenneth Branagh's Thor movie.

Director Larry Fessenden Off the Remake of The Orphanage

As angry as I am about the swift moves to remake the spectacularly reviewed Let the Right One In, it wasn't the first time I had felt similar emotions in an all too familiar scenario. Back in 2007, El Orfanato (aka The Orphanage) hit theaters and gained considerable buzz and attention thanks to not only Guillermo del Toro's endorsement as producer, but also because it was a satisfyingly chilling tale. And like any foreign film that gains the smallest amount of attention in Hollywood, a remake was ordered with Larry Fessenden attached to direct. That is, until Arrow in the Head found out from Fessenden that he's off the project.

Pineapple Express 2 Might Still Happen, But Superbad 2 Won't

I often get tired of writing about sequels that will never happen, but just because people want to see them, they always continue to exist as rumors forever and ever. Comedian extraordinaire Judd Apatow recently appeared on the Funny or Die Writer's Room live stream (found via The Playlist) and talked ever so briefly about two sequels to movies he produced. The first is Superbad, which has had sequel talk since the day it came out. And the second is Pineapple Express, which wasn't as big of a success as Superbad, but has also been talked about for a while. I'm down for seeing more from either, although I liked Superbad better.

Eddie Murphy May Be Talking to Some More Fluffy Animals

It's a true shame that the once raunchily hilarious comedian Eddie Murphy has turned into a family film garbage machine. I don't have problems with family films, but rather family films that simply suck. So when I heard the news from THR's Risky Biz Blog that Eddie Murphy is attached to produce and potentially star in The Misadventures of Fluffy, a road trip flick through New York featuring talking animals, I was already worried. But when I heard that it also has "an element of social comedy reminiscent of Murphy's 1980's hit Trading Places," then I joined SlashFilm in hoping the old Eddie Murphy is finally coming back.

Producer Says Silent Hill 2 Might Still Be a Long Ways Out

If there's one thing that will stop a movie dead in its tracks, it's one of the filmmakers being sent to prison. Such is the case with the developing horror sequel Silent Hill 2. While a sequel might not seem necessary or even desired, certain fans and, of course, the producers feel otherwise. Despite the delay caused by writer Roger Avary's imprisonment, make-up effects designer Paul Jones was still pumped for Silent Hill 2 just last week and it sounded like Avary was still on board. Now producer Don Carmody has shared some new info about the pending sequel with ShockTillYouDrop, and it's quite interesting to hear what he has to say.

Sam Worthington Will Witness The Last Days of American Crime

Even though Terminator Salvation was a lackluster installment in that franchise, no fault could be placed on Sam Worthington who, in my opinion, showed up Christian Bale on screen. And with the starring role in Avatar later this year, he's quickly becoming one of the most demanded actors in Hollywood. And we can add another project to his roster as Mania reports Worthington has signed on for an adaptation of Rick Remender's upcoming comic series, The Last Days of American Crime, a futuristic story where the government is set to roll out mind-control technology that will kill the criminal impulse in all citizens.

Watch This: Remember Me Trailer Starring Robert Pattinson

On the eve of the release of New Moon, Summit has debuted the trailer for Remember Me, starring their money-making hunk Robert Pattinson. But don't write this off so quickly, it also stars Pierce Brosnan, Chris Cooper, and Emilie de Ravin as the love interest. And honestly, this was looking really good until all of the cheesy lines like: "I'm undecided." "About what?" "Everything..." I think the father-son story will be a lot more interesting than the love story, but you never know, it could be a good movie overall. I'll probably see it anyway, it looks like a good indie, why not give it a a chance? Anyway, watch the official trailer below!

Brad Pitt's Plan B Developing Dark Void Video Game Movie

Have video game movies finally started to get to a point where a high profile star like Brad Pitt can lead them? Variety announces that Pitt's company Plan B and Reliance Big Pictures have purchased the rights to the video game Dark Void from Capcom. They will be developing a feature film based on the game as a potential franchise and starring vehicle for Pitt. The game isn't even out - it'll hit shelves in January for all systems (Xbox, PS3, PC). “As a game, Dark Void was developed with a wide-screen mentality – a world full of adventure presented in cinematic scope and scale,” Capcom senior VP Germaine Gioia said of the game.

Lauren McLaughlin's Cycler Novels Are Headed to the Big Screen

Another adaptation of a "young-adult" book - does this one also include screaming girls? Angryfilms, run by Don Murphy and Susan Montford, has picked up the rights to Lauren McLaughlin's Cycler series of novels, which tell the story of Jill, a suburban teenager who for four days each month turns into Jack, complete with male anatomy and 17-year-old-boy fantasies. Jill has maintained her life of ordinary teenage worries, such as going to the prom and dealing with crush, but that changes when Jack, tired of being locked in his room, begins to escape, causing damage to her social life. Now that sounds like it could be quite an intense movie.
